HARVEST MOON FOR GIRLS, ANYONE?
Hello, and welcome to "Harvest Moon For Girls, Anyone?", a thread all about Harvest Moon! whee I started this thread before the releases of Harvest Moon Another Wonderful Life and Harvest Moon More Friends of Mineral Town, which were named A Wonderful Life for Girls and Friends of Mineral Town for Girls in Japan. 3nodding See the Disclaimer note below to see my address to comments that this thread is being "sexist" with its title. xp
This started out as a discussion thread for those two games, but as time has passed, we've seen the release of three new Harvest Moon games and are anxiously anticipating the many more that have yet to come over from or even be released in Japan. As time has progressed, we have discussed each new game as it came along, but we're open for discussion of all the games in this wonderful series. So come on in, join the fun, and let's talk some Harvest Moon! 4laugh
DISCLAIMER:
Hello all! Let me clarify something that seems to be an ongoing battle:
THIS THREAD IS NOT MEANT TO BE SEXIST. BY TITLING IT "HARVEST MOON FOR GIRLS" I WAS NOT SAYING THAT THE GAME IS FOR GIRLS ONLY, BUT RATHER REFERRING TO THE JAPANESE TITLES, "HARVEST MOON: A WONDERFUL LIFE FOR GIRLS" AND "HARVEST MOON: FRIENDS OF MINERAL TOWN FOR GIRLS." SO ALL YOU GUYS COMING IN POSTING "It's not just for girls; it's for everyone!" AND SUCH, I KNOW, OKAY.
REVIEWS
Since so many people are asking the question, "Should I get Harvest Moon DS?", I thought it would be pertenant to post one of the better reviews I have given for the game. 3nodding So here it is:
SakuraMota
Sakura's Honest Opinion of Harvest Moon DS
It's a very fun game. However, there are several glitches. See my first post in this thread under the "Updates" section to read about some of the examples of glitches as well as some ways to prepare yourself for them. There are several nasty glitches, but if you take precautions, they shouldn't hinder gameplay. There are tons of things to purchase, but thankfully, it's fairly easy to make money if you manipulate the system correctly. blaugh A word of caution, though: this is probably one of the more difficult Harvest Moons to play. You have to build all of your buildings (i.e. Chicken Coop, Barn, Building materials storage sheds, etc.), there are MANY things to buy, and you can only gift a potential spouse once a day to raise her affection (as opposed to the M/FoMT series where you could stack on the gifts and potentially bring a person up one full heart level in one day rofl ). People who are used to the A/NWL/SE series and/or actually prefer that series may be surprised at and/or frustrated with the level of difficulty this game presents.
In short, I think it's a great game and highly suggest it to fans. I do not suggest HMDS for beginners of the series because it's not a good example of all that is Harvest Moon and may scare away newcomers. (For Moony Newbies, I suggest Magical Melody. wink ) My opinion: if you're a fan, buy it. In the end, however, you're the one holding the money, and I can't make you do anything. xd I suggest buy it, but you need to do what you feel is best. 3nodding
UPDATE!
NOTE: Due to bugs in the English version of Harvest Moon DS, you CANNOT marry the Harvest Goddess OR Witch Princess. Sorry guys. sweatdrop
Harvest Moon DS finally came out September 12th, 2006. Grats to all those who have bought it, and if you haven't yet, you really should. >w< Many people in the Harvest Moon community have been complaining about their games glitching, files corrupting, and otherwise having problems with making the game run properly. So, I have compiled a few notes and helpful tips that have been helping me keep the glitches at bay:
1. Save your file in both save slots. This will help you if one of them corrupts.
2. Don't build anything you plan to keep for an extended period of time out of Fodder. Fodder buildings and their collapsing in Winter have been the source of major glitch complaints within the Harvest Moon DS community. It's my suggestion to build everything out of Stone, but if that's too pricey for you Lumber is good too, just be careful about storms.
3. Save multiple times during the day. (For example, maybe in the morning, at noon, at 6 PM, and then right before you go to bed.) This will protect you in case your game freezes and you have to reload.
4. DON'T THROW WEEDS ON THE GROUND. This is considered littering and will make everyone but the Witch Princess hate you.
5. Do the Save/Reload trick to eliminate Typhoons and Snowstorms. This has been in Harvest Moon games since the days of GBC 3. Basically, whenever you wake up in the morning, the weather forecast is randomized. But if you get a forecast you don't want, there's a way to get around it. The old way used to be to hire the carpenter to come build something for you and then cancel, but here's the new method:
Step 1: Save the night before, right before you go to bed.
Step 2: Go to bed.
Step 3: Wake up. Check the weather.
Step 4: If the weather is unfavorable, reload and try again.
This also works well with trying to get it to rain on a certain day (which comes in handy for some Heart Events that require rainy days).
NOTE: While these will help prevent several glitches caused by ingame actions, there are some glitches that cannot be avoided. Some of those glitches include:
The Ghost Town Glitch--All the doors in town are locked, nobody comes outside, and you are the only person in town--EVER. eek This has been happening a lot when people start up new files, but I've heard some people have activated it in the middle of the game as well. xp
The Leia Title Screen Glitch--Basically, the game glitches at the title screen and renders several sprites of Leia the mermaid over the other characters. Resetting the game fixes this. 3nodding Edit: Some have also reported seeing the Harvest Goddess in this glitch. Also, here's a pic:
http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b201/sakuramota/HMDSTitleScreenGlitch.jpg
Freezing Glitches--While the saving methods may help prepare you for freezes, it cannot stop them from happening. Freezes happen at random and can happen at any time, but I've noticed I've experienced them when I've been playing nonstop for extended periods of time. 3nodding
The Million/Billion G Glitch--Self explanatory I would think, this glitch gives you an obscene amount of money out of nowhere. To me, this doesn't sound like a bad thing ( xd ) but for purists who want to earn everything by the fruits of their labors (like me xd ), this is a cumbersome glitch. As far as I know, this occurs randomly and there isn't any way to definitely trigger this, but I've heard lots of people have triggered it in Winter. Update: Apparently, there is a guaranteed way to trigger it. NOTE: I don't condone cheating, but if you want to do so, here's how (whited out for those who don't want to see):
--Hire the Fishing Team to fish at the Beach in Winter.
--It will reward you with a random number of G, possibly 1 Billion.
--It may take a couple of days to unlock it. ninja
Some people have asked what glitches are preventing you from marrying the Harvest Goddess and Witch Princess. Well, here's the answer:
The Witch Princess Problem
In order to see the Witch Princess's Purple Heart Event (which you are required to see along with all her other ones for marriage), you must, among many other things, kill 50 of your animals. The problem is, due to coding errors, the Witch doesn't count that you're killing the animals, and therefore, you can't see the event, and therefore, cannot marry her. gonk
The Harvest Goddess Problem
One of the major requirements for marrying the Goddess is to sell at least one of every item. Here's the problem: you can't get Buckwheat Flour, which is one of the selling requirements. gonk Normally, you'd obtain Buckwheat Flour from the New Year's Eve festival, but because of coding errors apparently, the game gives you Buckwheat Noodles instead of the Flour. sweatdrop Some have claimed that they've gotten it, but not many (I've only heard of one or two cases). So if you're one of the lucky few who gets the Flour or if you just use Action Replay to get the Flour, you can potentially marry her, but if not, then you can't marry her.
Keeping all this in mind, I hope you all have an enjoyable experience with the newest installment in the Harvest Moon series.
Happy farming! ^__^
