You and your boyfriend are at the beach as a terrible storm hits. You are seperated as you try to find something for cover. After the worst has past, you go searching for him, hoping nothing has happened. You stop at a small jewelry shop, and you smile as you buy a small, heart-shaped crystal locket. You place a picture of you and him together in it, and wrap it lovingly in soft tissue paper. You go by his house to see if he's there. You knock on the door, no one answers. As you grip the locket in your hand, you carefully turn the doorknob, and to your astonishment, the door opens. You slowly open the door and are hurt badly as you see the scene before you. Your boyfriend is sitting on his couch, kissing a girl you have never met, nor seen. Tears well up in your eyes and you drop the locket. As it hits the floor with a soft chime, and a sharp crack, he turns to see you there, throws the girl off him and stares without a word. He slowly walks towards you, eyes full of dread and fear. As he reaches to stroke you cheek, and gently hold your hand, you pull it away, completely devastated. You turn away from him, tears dripping from the corners of your eyes, and grimly walk out the door without a word or sound. He reaches for the little blue packet on the ground, but pulls away quickly as he sees it more clearly. It is no longer a locket full of hope and brilliance, but an example of a heart, broken by betrayal. And he shook his head as he realized what would never happen, and turned out the dim light that mockingly showed him all of his mistakes, and listened to the soft patter of rain. He turned to see a cruel stare of anger from the girl on the couch, and then she too left without a word, sound, or a glance back. And alone he stood in sorrow as the rain continued and the bleak night went on.
