In a brief moment
Anonymity is lost
Identify with she who was lost to you
But in another moment, the feelings gone
Don't you get it?
Don't you know?
The experiences you lose
The experiences you lost
Will just turn to regrets as you age
Lose the innocence
You'll just get hurt
The old jokes
No one thinks it's funny
It never was
Talk loudly on the phone
Yet yell when other overhear
I can hear you
I can
Belittle, begrudge, bemoan
Without thought for the ones standing in the eaves
In the doorway
Empty windows
Curtains shiver and whisper
Empty wind hollowing through
Quiet, dim light
Shades, blinds, block out directness
Dirty-clean floors
Sleepers
Drinkers
Escapees
Maybe I didn't mean it?
Maybe it's too late now
Calls in the middle of the day
I'm gone, can't be reached
The one point of contact
Is when I'm incapable of answering
Contact back
Put on your goddamn shoes
Obstinate for once
You need a change of pace
Bedroom wars
Shouting matches
What the 80's is to the 90's
Flashy ex-somethings
Take your books
Don't leave your things
You inspire bitter jokes
That deep inside, we realize are more sad than funny
But we laugh anyways
Oh yes, we laugh.
