Schedule: Get to school @ 8:30 Eat lunch on bus Go to Rhode island Go to Massachusetts Go home
Our first competition was a total trainwreck. There was so much wind during the opener. I actually didn't drop (at least I don't think so) but I caught my flag with my arms once, which you're not really supposed to do, but a lot of other people dropped, and, considering that this is only my first year on the guard, not bad for me, while the captain dropped, like, six times. The wind ended at the end of the opener. I had to do a really hard 45 in the wind, but I pushed through it while the others dropped.
Then the ballad. OMG, not the ballad. The beginning was pretty OK, but the ending?
The ending goes really fast. We were supposed to be in a certain pose on count six and they were on it on seven and eight. I knew how to do it right, and I WANTED TO, but I just couldn't because I had to go with what the rest of the guard was doing. stressed GAH! Everybody was on a different count!
Then the drum solo. We had a major trainwreck here. We were so unsure on the counts, considering that they were just a series of numbers with no work whatsoever, that we had just gotten the day before, so, yeah, we screwed up.
Then the closer (finally!) One girl almost grabbed my flag!!! I'm between two girls, both of whom have a flag in their hand, and there is no flag in front of me! Finally, the girl next to me realized that her flag was further on the left, but I still came out late. Otherwise, the closer was pretty OK... for me at least.
We brought it in on someone's front yard after the show (I bet they really appreciate a bunch of girls dressed like Power Rangers gathering in a huddle on their lawn... stare ) and our instructor was so dissapointed gonk He said that his heart was broken and he had that crying voice. No actual tears, but you know. The shaky voice thing. A little sad.
What really made me cry was when he was talking about our other instructor, who really wasn't supposed to be here today (for unknown reasons... until now) but came anyway to help out with the drum solo. Apparently, her mother is in the hospital, very sick (dying? quite possibly) but she came here for us. Now THAT was what made me cry.
Then we got awards. Amazingly, we won everything but best percussion and best visuals. Go us...
More in part II, I'm too lazy to write anymore, plus, my fingers are freezing >.<
