Christmas Story 2010 [Finished Story]
There was a battle taking place between the government and the rebels. It took place in an abandoned city. The ruins of which were infested by soldiers of either side. In one of the abandoned buildings, two rebels stood by the front entrance holding their guns. They both wore their fatigue uniforms, waiting silently to fire at the government soldiers outside. They seemed completely different from one another. One of them was male. He held his ground steadily, not flinching as he shot the outsiders and hid again to reload. He looked calm and resolute. He had his long strands of brown hair held up with a red bandana that bore the crest of the rebellion. The female one had short black hair and a really fair complexion. She was uneasy and quite nervous. She also wore a bandana with the same crest. It seemed apparent that she wasn’t used to warfare.
“Izumi.” The guy said.
“What is it, Kouya?”
“I’m sorry.”
“What for?”
Izumi looked at Kouya, waiting for an answer. On either side of the door, there was uncertainty. Izumi was anxious if Kouya would do anything brash as it is his personality to do so. Kouya, on the other hand, felt quite ashamed for a reason that puzzled Izumi.
“I’m sorry it had to be like this. It’s Christmas. I would have liked to take you out to dinner. You don’t belong out here. You should be safe back home if it wasn’t for me. This is all my fault. I’m sorry!”
Kouya had a look of regret as he held his rifle tight. He looked as though he was about to cry. Izumi looked at him with a straight face then smiled. In an effort to calm him down, Izumi spoke with conviction,
“Kouya, it’s okay. I’m the one who chose to come. I’ll say it again. I would rather be here with you on Christmas day than be safe at home, alone and worrying if you’ll come back.”
Unable to restrain his uncontainable joy, Kouya came towards her, probably forgetting that he might get shot through the opening the doorway provided. He held Izumi tightly in his arms, dropping his weapon. He said,
“Izumi, thank you for being here by my side. This is the best Christmas gift you could ever give me. I’m so happy.”
Izumi hugged him back, placing her hands around him. She felt comfortable, being held in such warm and loving arms. She mumbled in a voice hardly audible, “Me too.”
