Maria stared out the window of her bedroom. Her parents had figured out that she was sneaking out at night. She knew he'd be coming soon and her Dad would see him. They didn't know, however, that she had managed to remove the lock on her door. She slipped out of her room without a sound and hid by the front door. She could hear her Mother talking to her Dad. Great. Mom's up too. This is going to be harder then I thought. And it's raining. A car pulled up near the house and her heart skipped. Arthur was here and she had to go. "Sorry. Gotta' go." She threw the door open and ran out past her shocked parents. She expertly hopped over the railing and waved to them. "Love you, Mom and Dad!" She hopped into Arthur's arms, as he got out to get her. Maria's dad started toward them to get his daughter away from this strange man he'd never seen. But by that time, Arthur was driving away. Maria could hear her father yelling a number of obscene things at them. "You do realize I'm not going to be able to go back, right?" She looked at the boy next to her with her pretty green eyes. He smiled at her. "I know. I thought of that a while ago. You're with me from now on." "Arthur, that's a little bit obvious." "Maria... I don't think you get it." "No, I do. My answer is yes." He gave her a surprised look and she grinned at him. "I'm not an idiot Arthur Kirkland. I know when a guy is proposing to me."
