Never Forget She walked slowly on the fence,her arms stretched out,she hummed gently. She closed her eyes and felt the wind throw her hair back and the silence of the woods. She sighed and jumped down,that's when she first heard the low growl,deep and menacing.She gulped and stopped moving,her chest rising and falling steadily,she heard as the mountain lion crossed over and out of the trees. It snarled and she raised her head,strangely smiling. The mountain lion took a deep breath,slowly leaned in position,and pounced.
The mountain lion heard something and held itself back from fully lifting it's feet off the ground,it turned and the girl remained silent. In three seconds creatures were on the lion and the girl was racing down the wooden fence that bordered the 300 acre field, she ducked under a small hole in the fence and was in the property. The lion retreated and the creatures stood there,huge and with tangled black fur. They turned and looked at the girl with wide menacing and soulless eyes. She bit her lip as the creatures with pointed ears and shaggy tails howled and ran off, they were roughly the size of an adult horse. The girl smirked,"I love ya wolfie."
Chapter One
Milly, a simple girl, she had slightly curly blonde hair with warm hazel eyes. She enchanted suitors with a smile like the sun and a smooth tone to her charming voice. Today she was sitting in her large master suite with her pet Irish Wolf Hound named Terreur sitting by her side. She peered out the window as young men lined up by the door, she sighed. "Ya don't like 'em rich lads, now do ya?"she smiled as her maid, Lucy, walked in with Milly's corset and leggings, "Not quite Lucy, I just don't feel comfortable choosing these type of-"Lucy gave her a look,",men."she smiled, Lucy didn't like it when Milly called the suitors boys. She dozed off as the glimmering sun caught her eye off in the distance, "Snap out out of ' it young'un or'll be late!", Lucy shoved Milly and handed her garments, she sighed as she slipped them on.
She walked down the stairs in a lavender dress and a silver bow holding back her curly locks.A boy with soft brown hair was at the bottom,lingering with her parents and a wide man who was coughing into a handkerchief,"Oh hello darling."her mother took her hand and waved at the boy,"This is Charles,he's Mr.Lowcutty's boy."she chuckled and the man smiled under his coffee colored mustache,"Pleased to make your acquaintance."Milly said in a small voice,quite rehearsed.Charles peered her way and quickly managed,"Ahem,"he cleared his throat,"Would you mind coming with me to a wonderful ball tomorrow evening?"he arched his left eyebrow and Milly's eyes widened,her mother's eyes did in unision.She swallowed,"Um,why yes."she managed in a low voice.
Milly's mother smiled and looked at the Lowcuttys,"Will you excuse us?",an oblivious Mr. Lowcutty chuckled and replied,"Why yes,",his eyes wrinkled at the corners as he grinned,"Nice one me boy."he looked at Charles happily,Milly followed her mother into the nearby kitchen,"What is the matter?",she mumbled,her mother frowned,"You hesitated."she kept glaring at Milly,with her evil gaze Milly pursed he lips,"So does every other maiden in these lands."she crossed her arms,her mother gasped,"We both know 'tis a lie!"she was almost yelling,ever since their recent move Milly had been instructed to do various things to appeal to Charles,only because his father owed one of the largest treading companies."I wonder what father would say.."she shot back a cruel glare that caused her mother to gasp,"Millefescent Isabella Zelska!"she clenched her fists and Milly just stood up straighter,several inches taller. Her father was off in the Atlantic Ocean sailing with her twin uncles,she knew how her mother hated it when she mentioned him,he was supposed to return 3 months ago. Milly stood back and exited the room,she passed the Lowcuttys,with a curtsy she was out the parlor door.
Chapter Two
Milly's feet stung,she rubbed them gently. The two hour walk to town was painful to her feet,equipped with boots that gave her blisters just walking up the stairs. She mopped sweat off her forehead with the back of her hand. she spotted a carriage down the road which she had just been strolling down,she quickly went behind the bordering woods. Once safely behind a few pine trees,she watched the horse drawn carriage pass. She remained in her position for a few minutes,then the sweet aroma of raspberries drifted up to her nose. She glanced down to see the sweet berries in front of her,growing in bunches on the bush in which she hid behind. She stirred silently and picked a couple,she began to eat. She ate about five in a few minutes, she only stopped when she hid a twig snap,then a growl. Her eyes widened,she had only heard about bears,never has she seen them. She turned slowly to find a large black bear staring angrily at the thief of his berries.
The bear snarled,his fangs made the color drain from Milly's face. In about three seconds Milly leaped to the side,desperately trying to escape. The bear didn't take it well,he lunged after Milly's scrambling body. The bear's massive claw caught hold of Milly's cloak,flinging her to the side,she braced impact as she hit the trunk of a tree. The bear found Milly and began to claw at her back,Milly held on to the thinning string of life,she felt the string crack. But she was still alive. She opened her eyes,the bear was flying backwards,I'm safe,she thought. Just a little too soon,she felt her legs come from up under her body,unraveling her from her feedle position. She screamed as she was being dragged along the forest floor,she knew the bear had taken her legs,but she knew the bear was in a hurry. A black flash came from behind a tree as the bear was flung to the hard ground,trailing Milly in the air. She shrieked as a loud burst of snarls and roars came from a big black tumble of furious fur. Milly got to her scraped feet as the battle advanced in her direction,she scrambled to the road,she had never realized how tired she was,from all the fighting for her life. Her vision blurred as she crumbled with exhaustion,she hit the snad path and the last thing she saw was nonetheless than,a pitch black wolf.

Milly woke up in a compfortable bed of straw,the warmth soothed her legs and neck as she attempted to sit up. She first realized then that she was surrounded by strangers,an old man who was tall,a nice plump and smiling woman,a frowning young woman, and a beaming little boy. "She's wakin' up James!",the woman clasped her hands together and spoke in an Irish accent,the old man chuckled. "Do you remember anything? If not, you owe me a sack of gold.",the young woman crossed her arms and leaned closer,"I hope you don't,I wanna learn 'bout bears!",the boy stood on his toes and craned his neck. "I'm just Milly!",she retreated as the woman glared at the young woman,"Now don't be like that Jenny!",she wiggled her finger and shoved her away,"I'm Maljorie,we found-well James found ya on the road collapsed."the woman smiled brightly and glanced back torwards a shut door,"I'm William,found ya while coming from town."the old man held out his hand,his plaid shirt showing from under his overalls.
Milly looked up at him quizzically,"Are you James?",she looked at the little boy,"No,I'm Klause.",he hopped next to Milly on the bed,dust hovering over in clouds,"James is in his room washing up,hurry up James!",he leaned over and called to the door,a young man with wavy brown hair emerged,"Ya'll make her deaf if you keep screaming.",Milly kept herself from gasping,he was tall and masculine, the opposite of what boys like Charles Lowcutty were,"He saved me?",Milly turned to Maljorie,"Yes,smack dab in the middle of the road. He told William to come get you.",Milly attempted to stand,she got to her feet and fell. She wailed as she came close to hitting the ground,but James ran over in a heart beat and caught her and sat her back down,"First your life,now your face,isn't he amazing?",Maljorie sighed, "That's me boy.". Milly was confused,she looked up at James' caring eyes that seemed to look right through the wealth and fame. This made Milly estatic.
Milly's eyes seemed to twinkle as James slightly lifted her arm up,"Jenny,go get me a shawl for Milly."Jenny snorted and turned away with a stubborn face,James took her other arm and gently let Milly do the rest. "William,can you get you herding stick?",James gently ordered, William grabbed the long branch he used to scare sheep into place from it's resting place by the door of the hut. James glared at Jenny as she returned with a damp, unwashed shawl from Maljorie's room. Milly just felt right at home staring at James, she only stopped when he turned and wrapped the scarf around her aching neck and handed her the smooth branch. "Try to walk, I'm right here so it's okay.",Klause smiled and Maljorie moved the remaining people to the door,"Give them privacy."she shot a gaze at Jenny and grabbed Klause's arm while William happily strode out without looking back.

Milly held tight to James hand, she was walking down a dirt path to the pasture where William worked,"Careful,your twisted ankle won't take the pressure."James smiled as Milly let go of his hand and started to advance in the opposite direction,"Maljorie said it's time to come back."Jenny appeared out of nowhere and surprised Milly so much she fell to the ground! "Jenny!",James quickly knelt by Milly who was reaching for the stick,"Maljorie told you not to disturb them!"Klause emerged from the same path Jenny had took,"No,she told you!",Jenny lied easily,"Liar!"Klause jumped on his scrawny legs as Jenny marched to hover over the eight year old boy,"Leave before I hurt you!"Jenny chided,James quickly picked Milly up and rushed her further down the path, away from the arguing girl and the clearly stalling as planned boy.
Milly wrapped the raggedy shawl tighter around her shoulders,"I'm ever so cold,can't we go back?",Milly looked at James,he had survived the cold night easily with just his over shirt. "In just a few moments."he promised,"Milly,can I trust you?" Milly gasped, she felt tears swell up the fact that James didn't trust her slowly crept in. She turned away in a effort to hide her tears,"No! It's just this is a big thing.."he held her for the first time, she stopped,the warmth from his beating heart soothed her right away. "You can trust me with the secrets to destroy the world.",Milly assured him, James smiled and looked up behind her then gasped,"We have to go.",Milly's smile faded and the moment they were having came to a sudden halt. "But, tell me what you were about to say."she stopped him from holding her arm,"Can you tell me,just this once."she looked at him with her pleading eyes,he looked away,"No,we have to leave,now."he took her and began to go,Milly shook him off. "Why can't you tell me?",she demanded,her firm voice shocked him. He was used to a soft Milly with an injured ankle.
"It's the moon."he looked at her with wide eyes. "So,it's a full moon."Milly arched her eyebrow,confused. James clenched his fists, "You have to go,without me."he stepped back,away from her and into the forest. "No,James. Why is the moon bad?"she looked at him once again with her hazel eyes that looked straight through efforts and defenses that protected your secrets. "It's bright."James let out in a meek voice. "So?" "So bright,"James closed his eyes,obliviously in pain,",wolves can see you."
Milly watched in horror as James took off into the forest,"No!"she ran after him and he kept yelling back at her,"Go back! It's too dangerous!"Milly ignored him and kept the pursuit in motion. She tripped over a tree root and sat up just in time to see the one, the only, howling James.
As a wolf.
Chapter Three
Milly was shaking, he fragile body and mind shaken by the sights and transformation from young girl, to woman in a night. "But but but.."Milly stammered as Maljorie sat down and handed her a cup of tea,"It's okay Milly, you can let it out. No need for speaking."she hugged Milly, she had down this once to James' mother when they learned what he was. "I told you she would break down."Jenny remarked, her usual temperament. "Just...just shut up!"Milly stood up,"He cared for me and let me dream on as he took care of everything else, then I figure out he's a monster, I haven't seen you get traumatized and survive without a tear!"Milly shrieked, causing Klause to retreat into his room and Jenny to slowly lower her head in shame. "I think it's time Milly went to bed."James appeared at the front door, he had heard everything Milly had said. Milly's bottom lip quivered, she choked on tears then ran past him out the door. Everyone sat still while despair hung in the air, only William stirred too put his hand on James' shoulder,"I thought she would be different..."he grabbed a lantern from a shelf by the door and then a piece of straw from the fire,"I'll be gone all night."
"I just can't take my eyes off you, off you, off you.....Lay here beside me,just hold me and don't let go. Oh, this feeling, I'm feeling is something I'll never know. I just can't take my eyes off you."Milly sat on a log deep in the forest, her ankle ha swollen and her skin had grown pale in the low temperatures. The song she sang was the only comfort besides the itchy yarn dress she wore. Her head jerked left as James came into the clearing,"Milly, can we talk?"he sat down next to her, half expecting her to jump up and run away. "I know, your father was the king of lycans and Maljorie and William have to take care of you before you can become king." James was speechless. "Well there's something else," he sighed,"I have to find a bride."Milly looked up at him, her suspicious face suspected more,"But there's a catch?"she guessed, her tone like a know-it-all's. "Yes, I have to turn her."Milly sat up, her eyes red from crying. "James, I love you."she turned to him and his face lit up, he had hoped and dreamed about her saying that, but those were fantasies. "I love you too." he leaned over and kissed her gently on the lips as Milly felt the rush of disobedience fall over her.
~~~
Milly and James held hands as they walked down the path, her face still pale while his was smooth with his skin glowing. James let go of her hand only to open the door for her, she wiped the dried remnants of tears from her face and walked steadily to the hearth to greet Maljorie, "Everything is okay."she assured her with a smile. James and Milly sat by the fire all night, William said he had to turn in early because he had to go to town tomorrow and Maljorie had to take Klause to bed and then to her own. Only Jenny sat there, the words Milly had said floated around her head, they had been full of spite and hatred. She stood finally and left without a goodbye, Milly lowered her head,"What's wrong?"James scooted closer to her and put his arm around her, "I yelled those horrid things at her..."Milly kept looking at the rotting floorboards,"Compare that to the years she had spent tormenting and teasing everybody, it's about time she get some manners."
"But she looked really upset."Milly kept on, "She's made Klause lock himself in his room and sob." "Well I suppose it's time.."Milly began to agree, James smiled. He stood up and she followed,"I need to show you something."he took her hand and led her to a door, she had never been inside despite the few months she had spent here. "What is in there?"she asked, James smiled and pulled a key from his pocket. He pushed it through a keyhole and turned it,"My room."Milly let her hand slip from his, mouth wide open in awe. "This is you room?"the room had walls covered in bookshelves and an oak desk with stacks of papers and more books, a broad window covered the length of one wall. The house wasn't tiny nor a mansion, it was sizable and James had the biggest room.
Milly walked over to a bookshelf and picked out a red leather bound book, "Where do you get these books?"Milly thumbed through the book of tall tales and James grinned sheepishly,"Well I've been alive for so long..."Milly smiled and quickly understood, she walked to the broad window and watched the moon that was only a sliver of light against the black night sky. "You like the rooms?"James walked over to her and leaned on the window sill, also mesmerized. "Yes, they're beautiful." Milly let a warm breeze roll against her face and she closed her eyes,"Not as much as you."James smiled and Milly laughed in her charming voice and James wrapped his arms around her,"Well the one next door is yours."he awaited her reaction, she just stood there, paused. "What?"she raised an eyebrow, thinking she was hearing things,"The room.."James tugged her to the door,"next door.."he took her through the threshold and into the bare pale blue room,"yours."she put her hand over her mouth and she let her eyes sparkle as the eerie gray paint in James' room and the rest of the house was nothing to the pale blue paint and Victorian bed and balcony.
"I never noticed the balcony."she walked to the glass French doors. James walked to a wardrobe that appeared to be closed for quite some time, the dust clouds proved that fact."This side of the house faces the backside, you can watch the sunsets and the moon."he smiled and Milly gripped the railing with peeling white paint,"Come over here."James gestured for her to come over to the big oak wardrobe,"What is it?"Milly walked over with a smiling face,James smiled in unison opened the large an read behind the strike, i don't like the story
