"The Sound Of Someone Promising They'll Never Go" greece/japan ( july 19 2009 )
It is silence.
It is a cat padding along on the top of a crumbling wooden fence, the slip of darkness around it, the stars shining in their symphony of tiny pinpoint light.
It is a long walk, steep craggly cliffs and the dappled shadow of an olive tree, an engorged river and fields in the dawn light, the sakura blossoms falling, in them, wisdom.
It is what is unsaid (If I could stay like this forever, I would never want for anything) and what hangs in the air, what passes over the grass and into the purr of the cat lounging between them.
It is an abandonded lot at three AM, laying on the top of a still sunwarmed car, drifitng in between sleep and wake, wanting to retain the moment forever.
But it is also the loudest noise.
It is the shriek and clash of the battlefield- and then, the moans and the breathing of the injured and the dying, and condolances, sent to a family never to see their father again.
It is a festival, a holiday, a party- the light of lanterns playing on the top of the river, a family celebrating a new addition, a bottle of ouzo and a cheap movie, commemorating the day.
It is a whisper, a sweet little nothing that makes no sense and yet does, it is a moan, a cry, a groan, a shriek, a scream, a mumbled word- it is passion.
And it is everything between them- it is arguments, brief conversations and teasing, the naming of each and every cat, and then long discussions, everything; it is the sound of his knock on the door after a month apart, footfalls, cheers, bottoms up.
It's a brunette resting his head on the stomach of his lover, the other's hands running through his hair, and then it is the breath of him, the glance of sea-green eyes to the thoughtful face, and it is the voice that sounds nervous but is trying not to, attempting to be nonchalant.
Will you marry me?
And it is the sudden bloom of a grin, the leaning forward and kissing atop the head, and it is the word yes.
It is eternity.
