I knew I had to make friends. (I didn't want to be a lonely sea-witch floundering on the land with no place to go. That'd be embarassing.)
I started exploring Gaia, peeking around the shops and playing games. Soon I met up with a user named Janesie. I thought she seemed like a good enough person, so I sent her a friendship request, my first one. I guess she liked me in return because she accepted.
The friendship making process seemed simple enough, and I was comfortable just being myself. Over the next few days, I made a few more friends.
One certain user, however, surprised me. She had a pink profile covered with pictures of The Litte Mermaid, Storm Hawks, and Legend of Zelda. I did some further investigation and found out that her name was Melissa and that she loved the Little Mermaid just as much as I did. She was really excited when she found out there was a Broadway show of the movie she loved so much.
She wanted the Aquatica item, baaaaaaaaaaad. I thought I could help. (No mermaid should be kept away from her ocean home.) Friends help friends because that's what friends do. It took me a few tries, selling item after item, but I finally got what she wanted, not just once but three times. Melissa thanked me and gave me her friendship in return.
It turned out Ursula had trapped her in human form thus disenabling her to return to her ocean home. Ursula, the evil sea-witch that gives all good sea-witches like me a bad name. What she did I can never forgive, to my new friend Melissa or to any merfolk: tempting them with empty promises and then going back on her word. I swore to myself when I got the incentive to take up ocean magic that I would aspire to never be like her. (In contrast, I aspire to belt "I Want the Good Times Back" as Ursula on Broadway one day in real life.)
Melissa continued exploring the surface world with me and fell in love, but more on that later. Flet's calling me to come see the new spell he's mastered. He's my apprentice magician and as his teacher I must watch to see he does it right.
