The life of Hercules did not began and end with the twelve labors: the Nemean Lion, the Hydra of Lerna, the Cerynitian Hind, the Erymanthian Boar, the Cleaning of the Stables of Augeas, the Stymphalian Birds, the Cretan Bull, the Mares of Diomedes, the Amazon’s Girdle, the Cattle of Geryon, the Golden Apples of the Hesperides, and the Descent to the Underworld, that he attended. His life was full of action and like most of the super heroes today, he faced a number of villains and difficult situations that he had to solve. Hercules was the son of the god Zeus and the mortal Alcmena. Hera, the wife of Zeus was furious when Hercules was born and had deep hatred for him. When Hercules was a few months old, Hera sent two serpents to kill him as he was laying down. Hercules throttled the snakes in his two tiny hands and killed them with his bare hands. He was found later by his nurse playing with their bodies as if they were child’s toys. Hercules’ first wife was Megara. Hera turn Hercules mad and in result killed his wife and children. After he cured his madness, he fled to the Oracle of Delphi. The Oracle, who was guided by Hera told him to serve King Eurystheus for 12 years. Guess what? The 12 years that Hercules served King Eurystheus resulted in the 12 Labors of Hercules. After his 12 labors Hercules joined Jason in search for the Golden Fleece. Deianerira was the third wife of Hercules. Nessus, a centaur took Deianerira after Hercules and Deianerira’s weding. Hercules was enraged and shot Nessus with a poison arrow dipped with the Hydra’s blood and shoot Nessus. As Nessus was dying he took off his shirt and told Deianerira to give his shirt to Hercules to keep him from falling in love with other women. She nodded and took the blood-stained shirt. Years after the incident, Deianerira heard that she has a rival for the love of Hercules. Deianeria remembered Nessus’ words and gives Lichas to deliver the shirt to Hercules. Lichas, the herald delivers the shirt to Hercules. Hercules who did not know that the shirt was posioned puts it on. Since the shirt was covered in the Hydra’s blood from his own arrows, the poison kills him. His body is slowly being burned away, Hercules kills Lichas because he thought that she was trying to kill him. Now only his immortal side is left. This means he is a full god and he raises to Mount Olympus with the other gods.
Jason is the son of Aeson and Alcimede. His father, Aeson was the rightful heir to the throne. His uncle, Pelias wanted the throne and took it from Aeson. Pelias tried to kill Jason but his mother hid him. Pelias lived in fear that the rightful heir would come back and take his throne from him. Pelias went to a oracle to see what fate awaited him. The oracle warned him of a stranger who would come with one sandal. Jason entered the kingdom with only one sandal. He lost the other one while walking in the river carrying an old woman, whom was Hera in disguise. Jason went up to Pelias and demanded his throne back. Pelias told him to get the golden fleece to prove that he is able to be king. After getting the task gather a group of people. They were later known as the Argonauts, who were named after the boat that they were sailing in. Jason arrived in Colchis to claim the golden fleece. The kind of Colchis, King Aeetes promised to give it to him if he could perform three tasks. After hearing what the tasks were Jason got depressed because he thought the tasks were impossible. Hera told Aphrodite to make Aeete’s daughter, Medea fall in love with Jason. In result, Medea helped Jason with his three tasks. First Jason had to plow a field with a fire-breathing oxen. Medea gave Jason an ointment that protected him from the oxen’s flames. Jason’s next task was to spread the teeth of a dragon into a field. The teeth would sprout into an army of fierce warriors. Medea knew about this and warned Jason. She also told him how to defeat the warriors. Before they attacked him Jason throw a rock. The soldiers were unable to discover where the rock came from and in their confusion attack each other. The final task was to get the golden fleece from the Sleepless Dragon that was guarding the fleece. Medea mixed up a potion for Jason that got the dragon to sleep after he breathed in the potion. While the dragon was asleep, Jason took the fleece and sailed away with Medea. When Jason got back to Greece, he became engaged to Creusa to help strengthen political power. When Medea found out, she was enraged and stated that she helped him get the golden fleece. Jason said that it was not her that helped him in getting the golden fleece but Aphrodite who got Medea to fall in love with Jason in the first place. Medea killed Creusa so that she would never be married to Jason. Jason broke his vow to love Medea forever, he lost the approval of Hera and died lonely and miserable. He was then cursed because he broke the vow. While he was taking a nap under the stern of the ship, Agro, a piece of wood fell on him and killed him.
