“But…” Phoenix started, but Jasmine raised the tray silencing him.
“I’ll see you later, Jules,” he gave Jules a small smile before climbing out her window.
“How can you stand him?” Jasmine asked in disgust as she picked up the first aid supplies scattered across Jules’ bed, “He’s such a skirt chaser!”
Jules sighed, “Jas, Phoenix was my best friend before we could walk.”
“Yeah, WAS,” Jasmine shook her head before walking towards the doorway, “I’ll be downstairs.”
Jules watched Jasmine disappear around the corner. As soon as she was out of sight, a strong arm wrapped around Jules’ waist and a hand covered her mouth.
“Now it’s just you and me,” Phoenix whispered in her ear, a smile in his voice.
Jules protested, but since Phoenix’s hand was over her mouth, it was muffled.
“Sh! We don’t want ‘I Dream of Genie’ up here to ruin the party, do you?” Phoenix asked as he slowly removed his hand away from Jules’ mouth.
Bending down a bit, he swung his arm up, knocking Jules’ legs from underneath her and carried her over to the bed.
“Phoenix!” Jules exclaimed, “What are you doing?!?!”
“Relax, Jules, I’m not going to do anything bad. Come on, you trust me, don’t you?” he asked as he sat Jules on her bed.
Jules looked up at Phoenix, a little confused and unsure.
“You mean a lot to me, Jules, more than you know,” Phoenix continued as he leaned down to kiss Jules’ forehead, making her blush, “I wouldn’t do anything to chase you away from me.”
“Phoenix…” Jules started, but Phoenix put a finger to her lips.
“Sh, I’m not going to loose you again.”
He held Jules close to him. Jules hesitated, and then wrapped her arms round him, clutching the back of his jacket.
“You’re not going to loose me, Phoenix. I promise,” she mumbled into his tight brown shirt.
Phoenix chuckled and lifted her off of the bed so he could sit on the bed, sitting Jules in his lap. Jules felt something cold touch the back of her head.
“You dropped this,” Phoenix chuckled as he held the ice pack to her head.
Jules laid her cheek against Phoenix’s chest, clutching the front of his jacket. Slowly but surely, Phoenix’s steady heartbeat lulled her to sleep.
