Browsing around on Gaia forums, I discovered a lot of threads with titles such as: "How do I get gold?" and "How can I get gold really fast?"
Some think that the best solution would be to use cheats that you can find online. I wouldn't recommend this method. They almost will always ask for your password and friends have told me on several occasions that from doing this they got hacked.
Though i'll admit. I was low on gold once and tried it myself about a year ago. Luckily for me, they never sent me any gold into my account (as they had promised to do) and so I haven't had any hacking issues or problems regarding my account. (~Knock on wood~).
So after reading all those posts I decided to do a little guide for how to get rich on gaia the legitimate way and without giving out your password and/or cheating. But please don't take this guide too seriously. It's mostly for people new to Gaia and everyone has their own preferred methods which I respect.

Tip #1: Buy monthly collectibles online or at a store that sells them. (I believe Target carries them). These cost about 2.50 each online and in store and are quite handy. These monthly collectibles will increase in value overtime as they are only sold for one month. Buy them, maybe wear them a bit, and then save them for a while. You can check up on prices in the marketplace and sooner or later you should see a huge increase in demand and price. When the time is right put them up for sale. Just look what happened with the Koko and Kiki kitty plushies!
Tip #2: When selling items in the marketplace don't charge too much. Many people when they get a high ticket item tend to put them up for sale at a very high price. This isn't a very inviting thing to buyers. Buyers will always look for the cheapest prices and will immeadietly flock to the listings that have it. So if you sell for low prices you can get money faster. Of course that doesn't mean you should charge very low under the norm value of the item. Head on over to the listing of your item and check to see what others are listing it as. Don't go to over or under what they charge. [UPDATE] Recently i've noticed a trend where sellers will have the buy it now price be completlely ridiculous and then they'll have the bid option start at zero and have the bid increment be some other ridiculous number. Don't do that! xp That's a really bad move on your part because then someone could come in and bid 1g for an item worth WAY more and then nobody else would be able to bid (or would want to if the increment is too high). So make your increments reasonable too.
Tip #3: When selling items in the marketplace include a bid option in addition to a buy it now option. This is one of the best ways to make a lot of gold on high ticket items. Put a relatively high amount as the buy it now. Then for the bid option, put a very low amount such as 300g. Have the listing run for a moderate amount of time, or the 13 days which is the longest a listing can stay I believe. People want to get the best deal possible and will flock to the bid option. You may not get as much money as you put for your buy it now but you're sure to get a good price.
Tip #4: When trying to get an outfit that you don't have enough money for in total, buy in installements. I just recently utilized this when I bought my summer outfit, the one i'm wearing now. I knew I didn't have enough money to buy the whole outfit together and even if I did it would leave me with little or no gold left. As for me, I never like to have less then 1,000 gold at any one time. If I have less I feel limited and less able to purchase impulse buys should I want to. So I combed the marketplace until I found a good deal on the waitress dress. But I wanted the sleeves too though I knew I didn't have enough. So I played some games and waited until I had enough for them with left over gold. (The other items I had already in my inventory). Then I proceeded to follw the example of my next tip.
Tip #5: Sell unwanted clothing articles or other items at a STORE. (Note how I don't say the marketplace). It's possible to get more money then the actual value of an item. But often times in the marketplace, it's selling for less then the retail value. For example, the blue-winter scarf was selling for 600 something in the marketplace but if I sold it in a store it would sell for about 1,000 or so. So obviously the better choice was to go to a store and sell it. Now this doesn't always work to your advantage. Keep in mind that you cannot sell items that are not sold in stores and you will get LESS then the actual retail value. For non-store items your best bet is the marketplace. And don't forget to invest. I had a left over dream avi that I wasn't planning on wearing and was able to sell the pieces of it for quite a good chunk of change. But buying items and then later selling them is a great technique.

Well that's it for my beginners guide to earning money on Gaia. It was kind of fun to write but at the same time I feel like half of the tips are just plain common sense. Oh well. Maybe somebody will benefit from them. That is, if anyone will ever read my journal.. scream
