Lately on the news, they've been talking about the Archbishop who's been picked by the Pope to be a Cardinal. Apparenty, he's Texas' first Archbishop-turned-Cardinal, and this is all about Catholicism. It got me to thinking about why I'll never be Catholic. Here's some of my reasons:
1. The traditional Catholics don't believe in birth control. Why do you think we see so many Mexican families wondering around Texas with huge families (especially when you go to Walmart)? It's because many of them are Catholic! (at least in my experience of meeting them)
2. During Lent, they can't eat meat on Fridays (at least, I believe it's just during Lent.) During "Romeo and Juliet", my Catholic-practicing friends would eat fish sticks on those late-practice days or if we had pizza, would eat cheese pizza.
I couldn't eat fish sticks since sea food disgusts me xP
3. I can't drink, and Mass/Communion is a big part of being Catholic from what I've seen. Baptists (which is what I am) and Methodists just use grape juice, where as Catholics and Lutherans use some kind of wine. So...ya.
4. I've been to a Catholic wedding and went to a Lutheran middle school where we had to get up and down on these benches and I have knees that make noises. I couldn't do it anymore now if I had too
5. I don't think I could keep up with all of what the Pope said, nor do I really care. But that's probably just the 20 year old college student in me talking. If I was older, maybe I would care
And those are just a few reasons. I don't care if someone else is Catholic, that's great if you are. I have family and friends that are. I just don't want to be. I'm great the way I am.
