---

Please... please....

She had been there... right beside him.... Everything had been quiet.

He was never one to think that things were perfectly safe at all times. But it had seemed as if the battle had been won. He'd had his Byakugan on... so how had he missed it? With his blood limit he should be able to see everything! Three hundred and sixty degree vision... with just a single blind spot. He had been moving his head to keep the blind spot out of the way. So... how...?

She was lying in his arms. He could only stare at her and feel the sensation of something warm falling down his face. It was cold as the air hit it, yet warm; as if trying to comfort him. But all that his pale white eyes could do was stare. Stare at the one who'd been beside him just moments before.

Her blood was everywhere. More than what should bleed from a normal human being. He was covered in her blood. He knew what had happened, and yet for some stupid reason he couldn't register it. The enemy was dead. She had killed him... sacrificing... herself... for him.

Why?

Her lips moved. He blinked before bringing himself closer, his ear bending down to catch what lips were forming.

"...M... M... Ma... ma... Mama." She was trying so hard not to cry, even at the bridge of her own death. But he could see a single clear pearl of liquid draw down her pale skin. "...Pl... please... Ne... Neji... take... care... of... Ma... ma... Fu... zen... Mu... ki.... I can't... protect... th-them...."

His hands tightened and his body shook as he absorbed her words. Even now she was only thinking about others. She was dieing and she wasn't even thinking about herself. She was thinking about her mother and siblings. How she couldn't protect them anymore.

"Ne... ji... sen... pai..." this time he turned his face towards her, even though he could see her face without his silver eyes focused on her. "...I... really... rea... really... lo...."

Her words drew off. They stopped.

Ended.

Her chest wasn't moving anymore.

"Otonashi!" He shouted fiercely, shaking her body in a pitiful attempt to wake her up. Hyuuga Neji had never begged once in his life, but now he was. "Otonashi... please... wake up... please." Those green orbs of hers stared out, completely lifeless. They were blank.

Blood dribbled out of her mouth.

She was dead.

He was her teacher. Her mentor. And... he knew that she'd loved him. She was willing and ready to do anything for him. She'd done more for him than she was obligated.

And he had failed her.

Unfortunately, not being familiar with whomever these characters are (wait...is this a Naruto thing? Neji sounds familiar...), nor what certain terms were, I was left a bit confused. In the third full paragraph you used "him" twice in the same sentence, making the reader confused a bit. Had to read it again to figure out one "him" was the son and the other "him" was the enemy... I re-read it and I'm still kinda lost sweatdrop

HOW COULD YOUUUUUU~! crying That's not going in the story no matter what you say!

    I has the power!

Other then that, it's a very nice emotional piece. It nearly made me cry. I'll grammar-critique it later.

Fool me once, shame on you.
    Fool me twice,
    shame on me.
