Sasuke's Forget-Me-Nots
Chapter One: A Mission and a Memory
It was late night in Sasuke's apartment. The young Uchiha tossed and turned in his bed, grasping his left shoulder.Sasuke sat up, panting and sweating, flinching everytime his heart beat. He slightly lifted his hand and peered painfully at his curse mark.
"Damn you, Orochimaru..." Sasuke hissed into the darkness. "I swear on my life that I'll kill you and Itachi."
Sasuke flinched again as another pulse of pain shot through his body. He threw the sheets off his lower body and swung his legs over his bedside. He slowly made his way to the bathroom to get pain relief ointment. The tube was almost empty.
The next morning, Sasuke, Sakura, and Naruto all stood at the village's bridge. Sasuke was leaning on the rail of the bridge, fighting his drowziness.
"Sasuke, are you alright?" asked his teamate, Sakura. "You look exaughsted!"
"It's nothing..." he replied turning his head away from her. "I just didn't get much sleep, that's all..."
"I'm sorry, Sasuke..."
As Sakura reached out to Sasuke's shoulder, a large puff of smoke appeared over his head. The smoke cleared to reveal Kakashi Sensei, late as always.
"Hello Sakura, Naruto." he greeted cheerfully. "Have either of you seen Sasuke?"
"Damn it, Kakashi Sensei." Sasuke growled. "Get off my head!"
Kakashi looked down, baffled at the student under his feet.
"Why, hello Sasuke. What are you doing down there?" He asked innocently.
Sasuke growled angrily and quickly thrust his head upward. The action made Kakashi Sensei lose his balance and sent him hurdling off the bridge. In two puffs of smoke, Kakashi was back on the bridge, holding his latest "Come Come Paradise" book.
"Alright Kakashi Sensei, spill it!" Naruto snapped. "Why the hell were you late this time?! We want the truth!"
"Well, Naruto. Some of us like to bathe before they go out. And this hair isn't exactly the easiest to style, you know." Kakashi replied, closing his book. "Now for the mission."
Naruto, Sakura, and Sasuke stood listening after hearing the shocking truth from their sensei.
"Your mission is to protect the heiress of a large village under seige."
"A large village?" Sasuke quickly asked. "What large village?! Who's the heiress?!"
Sasuke lunged at his sensei and grabbed ahold of the front of his shirt. He scowled at the cover of Kakashi's book wich divided the space between their faces. Sakura and Naruto grabbed both of the Uchiha's arms and pulled him away from Kakashi.
"Why are you so worked up about your mission, Sasuke?" asked Kakashi coyly. "You'll find out everything you need to know at the docks where the heiress' boat will arrive."
Sasuke looked at the ground, mentally defeated. He quickly jerked his arms away from his teamates and shoved his hands in his pockets. Quietly walking away, Sasuke hung his head.
"Sasuke, where are you going?" Sakura called after him.
"To the docks." he said bitterly. "Let's start our mission already and get this over with."
Naruto looked at Sakura confused. She returned the same look to him. Kakashi shrugged his shoulders and silently followed Sasuke. Naruto and Sakura did the same.
Sasuke thought hard about why he had freaked-out at the mention of a large village and it's heiress. He started to remember something from long ago. A lost memory about his childhood vacation.
"Hey, Kakashi Sensei." Naruto's voice shot right through Sasuke's memory. "Exactly what village does this person we're protecting come from?"
"Well it's a large village. It's lack of elite ninja caused it to stay out of wars and conflicts. It's also known for it's large fields of Forget-Me-Nots."
"I've heard of theat village!" Sakura blurted out. "It's called the Village Hidden in the Petals, right?"
"That's right, Sakura. And we will be protecting the Kage's daughter, Naowai."
Sasuke's heart skipped a beat.
