It was the middle of a summer day, and the marketplace was packed with people, busily moving from one stall to another, bartering for food, clothing, fabric, anything and everything they needed. The sun was strong, beating down on the town savagely, no clouds in the sky to block the harsh rays, and it was startling when a huge shadow fell across the marketplace. The people turned their faces to the sky as one, as the shadow grew smaller, as a creature swooped down on white-feathered wings, as the beast came to rest on its immense back paws in the middle of the street. All was silent a long moment, as the newcomer surveyed his surroundings, and then the excited whispers began. "Where is Shiva?" the creature demanded in a booming voice. A small boy, unafraid, came forward and bowed low to the great creature before him. "The Destoryer rests in her temple." "And where is this temple?" the creature questioned. "Lead me to it." The boy bowed low and trotted ahead. The creature, a huge albino tiger, nearly seven feet tall with white wings and pale blue eyes, with claws dipped in gold, with only revenge on his mind, followed, and as he walked, the people of the town fell to thier knees before him. Already, the whispers had spread: the Creator had come to see the Destroyer. In a few moments, the boy came to a halt before a great building, adorned with precious stones, artwork, and other decorations, and swept his arms wide. "This is the Dwelling of Shiva the Destroyer," he said in an awed voice. "This is her temple." The tiger nodded silently, then said, "My thanks. You may go." The boy nodded and scampered off down the dirt road. The creature, left alone, sighed heavily, then climbed the steps into the temple. Inside, it was shady and cool, and numerous gifts and offerings lay scattered across the vast room. And upon a throne in the middle of the room sat Shiva, her back to the creature. "Sister," the creature growled affectinately, coming forward slowly. "My dear little Luna Ayanna..." "Luna Ayanna Wildheart is dead," Shiva snarled from her spot in the middle of the room. "You're wrong," the creature persisted. "She lives...she has changed, but she lives..." Slowly, Shiva stood from her throne, stepped out from behind it, and faced her brother, piercing red eyes meeting calm blue. Her velverty dragon wings, the same crimson color as her eyes, glistened in the sun filtering into the temple. "Neither of us is who we were, dear brother." "No," he agreed quietly. "But I have chosen not to forget my past." "And neither have I!" Shiva growled, enraged. "How dare you even suggest I could forget what happened to our mother and father...to our brother..." "Have you forgotten who did this to us? Who embittered us and tore our family apart?" "I have not, and will not, as long as I live." The creature held out a paw, gold claws glinting brightly, eyes ablaze. "Then join me. Come with me." "And go where, Tiergan?" "We will go home," the creature replied, then snarled. "We will have our revenge." "How?" "The king is not popular," he said. "Rebellion is brewing amongst the people. We can bring order to the unorganized bands of rebels, bring them together for a common cause!" He was grinning now, with excitement and anticipation. "Luna, we will overthrow Raghnall, murder him, install new rulers! The Golden Age of Palresena'Esum will be our doing! Join me, sister, please!" Shiva contemplated his outstretched paw a moment, then nodded slowly. "We will go. We will plan, we will strengthen...and we will conquer." She clasped her paw with his, silver claws clinking against gold. "The king will fear us. He will run from us. But soon enough, revenge will be ours." "The Creator and the Destroyer, together at last," her brother agreed, nodding. "Raghnall will realize what a dire mistake it was to create us." Softening, he patted her shoulder. "Shiva..." he purred, and she laughed gently. "My good brother Brahma...I am glad we are undertaking this together." And leaving the temple, they glanced at each other, shared a small smile, then took to the skies, brother and sister, Creator and Destroyer, so very different, but joined by the bonds of family...and a lust for revenge.
