Death, pile upon pile, pit by pit,
Decay, sickness, and lament.
Heartbreak, pain and loss
All summed up with the Holocaust.
Regret and anxiety.
What’s gonna happen to me?
That’s the thought racing through their minds.
Doom, destruction and demise.
Confusion, rage, and betrayal
As they are pushed along the rail.
No one to warn,
Alone in the storm.
Cruelty and hate.
Killing many in its wake.
Bloody and beaten still they fought,
Knowing freedom must be bought.
Under fire and in rain
Pushing forward through the pain.
Many are no longer here
Shown by their kin’s tear.
Recognized by the whole world
As the flags are unfurled.
Always in the hearts of many.
Heroes not condemned in infamy.
