A hunter walks a trail untrod
one dark and moonless night.
His quarry roams this silent wood,
though neither tracks nor trails in sight.
Suddenly, these shadows three,
quickly they surround,
Wicked laughter drifts through the trees,
such a fearful sound.
His blood runs cold as he hears her voice,
The Lady of the Wood,
“Who dares trespass my territory?
Speak if you have understood!”
With trembling voice and leaden tongue,
the hunter answered thus,
“A starving man in need of game,
In your wood I seek the wild and untamed.
Lady of the Wood, to you I pray.
Grant me safe passage and never shall
you see me again.”
The shadows circle, growl and snap.
Three wolves take shape from mist of black.
A snarl rips through the tree leaves green.
Distant wolf howls, akin to screams.
Lady Wolf speaks, her eyes agleam,
“You seek the pelts of my children here, to cloth your naked back
I smell their blood upon your blade; their fur has lined your pack!
I take kindly not to liars here, and worse to murderous thieves.
Take him my pets. Show foolish hunter all that he has reaped.”
Her wolves close in, white fangs bared,
in them true hunters born.
Powerful jaws and powerful claws,
red eyes gleam with hunger and scorn.
As his cries fade into the moonless night,
the last thing that his eyes did see,
Was Lady Wolf, laughing at the man,
who thought he could trick she.
So careful all who walk the wood
in search of game trail’s end.
Touch not her wolves or your bones will add
to Lady Wolf’s wolf den.

- Description: (6/19/09) You know that time of night when you really should be asleep oh say around 2 AM? Well, it turns out that that is also the best time for me to write. This started as a story idea I had about a year ago. I wrote it out to its conclusion and, to be honest, it sounded terrible. It appears that this idea was ment to be a poem not a story. Rate, comment and enjoy the fruits of my insomnia. Thanks to all who read it. ^_^
