She sat, huddled, in the growing darkness. It creeped towards her, slowly, abiding its time as she silently weeped, praying that the thing wouldn’t come any closer. She closed her eyes and whispered, hugging herself tighter. She knew she couldn’t escape. She had tried that once; it had just made the thing angrier. It had attacked her furiously; gashing the side of her left leg and arm. After that she had just managed to limp to a corner basked in light, untainted by the growing evil darkness.
With tears streaking her face, making white paths on her dirt covered face, she slowly opened an eye. At first she saw nothing but a black room, worse than any rainy night in her life. She opened her other eye then, gaining courage, and looked around the room. She had always hated the night and never knew why. She just knew that things lurked there, hiding, waiting for the chance to strike. She had witnessed it once, four years ago, when it had attacked her boyfriend and devoured him whole. That was the worst night of her life. Hearing his screams of terror, begging her to help him, when she knew then and even now that there was nothing to do to stop it.
