• EXT. BACKYARD.

    Kierra and Sarah notice the next door neighbors throwing
    suitcases in their car. They’re telling their kids to hurry
    up and the kids are crying.

    SARAH
    What’s going on over there?

    KIERRA
    I don’t know...

    They both get up and take a closer look. The neighbors
    quickly drive off. They hear other cars driving as well, at
    a fast speed. Kierra looks around, confused.


    INT. LIVING ROOM. NIGHT.

    Kierra and Sarah walk in.

    KIERRA
    Something very weird is going on.

    MITCHEL
    We can say the same. Did you see
    anything outside?

    SARAH
    No, but we saw some neighbors
    looking very...panicked. They took
    all their stuff and left.

    DAMON
    This could be the reason why...

    Damon turns up the T.V and there’s a news report going on.

    REPORTER
    Police are telling everyone to stay
    in doors, lock their windows and
    doors. Don’t come outside unless
    it’s an emergency.

    KIERRA
    What’s going on?

    DAMON
    Just listen...

    OFFICER (ON T.V)
    We don’t know how it’s spreading,
    we don’t know why either. All we
    need everyone to do is to stay
    indoors and don’t come out.

    REPORTER
    Officer, have you ever seen
    anything like this before?

    OFFICER
    Never in my life. Even the
    government and the president are
    unsure what to do.

    REPORTER #2
    How fast is it spreading, officer?

    OFFICER
    We don’t know. We don’t know
    anything yet, we will have more
    information on everything soon.

    KIERRA
    That’s exactly the opposite of what
    everyone else is doing...

    MITCHEL
    What the hell is going on?

    REPORTER #3
    I’m standing in front of Cape May
    hospital and patients are POURING
    in with bite marks, scratch marks
    and are being viciouslly attacked
    by other people. We don’t know why
    yet. There is still no word on
    where to go; all the police are
    telling everyone now is to stay
    indoors. Evacuations will start on
    the south jersey side and they’ll
    work their way up.

    MEDIA REPORTER
    As you can see, no one really knows
    what is going on. We’ll just hope
    that whatever this is, it ends
    soon.

    Xavier is in his room, watching what is on T.V too. He goes
    downstairs to everyone else.

    XAVIER
    Does anyone know what’s going on
    right now?

    DAMON
    No. None of us do. We just need to
    sit tight.

    KIERRA
    Sit tight? I think we should do
    what everyone else is going...get
    the hell out of here.

    MITCHEL
    Bite marks? Why are
    people...attacking each other like
    this?

    DAMON
    You’re asking the wrong person.
    Where’s Phoenix? Has anyone heard
    from him?

    Kierra is about to answer, but catches herself. Instead she
    just shakes her head, as everyone else does too. The door
    opens and Phoenix comes in the house.

    DAMON (CNT’D)
    Are you okay?

    PHOENIX
    Yeah, I’m fine. Why?

    DAMON
    You haven’t been watching T.V at
    all yet?

    PHOENIX
    What is?

    Damon shows Phoenix what is happeneing. What the media is
    saying, and what the police officers are saying as well.

    PHOENIX (CNT’D)
    Biting people? Eating people?
    You’ve got to be kidding me, right?

    XAVIER
    It might sound crazy...but what if
    it’s true?

    SARAH
    Everyone’s leaving...they’re
    probably going to their families
    and everything.

    PHOENIX
    Are you guys serious?

    MITCHEL
    The media just wouldn’t lie to us.

    PHOENIX
    The media lies all the time,
    Mitchel.

    DAMON
    But something like THIS? It’s a
    disease, they don’t know how or
    when it got here. It sounds real
    dangerous.

    MITCHEL
    They could be anywhere right now.
    We need to leave.

    DAMON
    We STAY. We protect ourselves here.

    MITCHEL
    For how long? We don’t know what’s
    going on how will we know how to
    protect ourselves??

    PHOENIX
    Protect ourselves from what?
    There’s nothing serious going on
    out there, they always over
    exaggerate s**t.

    XAVIER
    We wouldn’t know. How would any of
    us know?

    Sarah looks out the window and sees other people panicking
    and driving away. She sees other "people" walking after cars
    that are driving off. Kierra joins in and sees what she’s
    looking at.

    DAMON
    Do ANY of you want to go out there?
    To face off what’s going on?

    PHOENIX
    I’ll ******** do it.

    DAMON
    No. We’re not leaving this house.
    Atleast you, Xavier and Kierra
    aren’t.

    (Beat)

    DAMON (CNT’D)
    Mitchel...please.

    MITCHEL
    Why? Just how long do you expect me
    and Sarah to be here? Who knows
    when this thing will end?

    DAMON
    Doesn’t matter. We’re family. We’re
    suppossed to stick together.

    Long pause.

    As they keep debating, Xavier quitley goes to the back door
    and into the backyard. He goes to the shed and takes out a
    crowbar, a shovel, a machete and other tools. He then takes
    them inside the house and Phoenix catches him.

    PHOENIX
    Dude...what’re you doing?

    XAVIER
    Nothing.

    Xavier puts the stuff down and closes the door behind him.

    PHOENIX
    You can’t be serious.

    XAVIER
    It’s just in case.

    PHOENIX
    Just in case what?

    XAVIER
    I just...feel like I have to.

    PHOENIX
    You’re so gullaible. Am I the only
    one with sense in this house? Did
    you get this idea from playing one
    of your dumb video games?

    XAVIER
    It doesn’t matter. What ever’s
    going on isn’t going to be pretty.

    Phoenix closes his eyes then suddenly, the lights go out.

    DAMON (O.C)
    DAMMIT!

    He tries turning on the T.V but it doesn’t work. Sarah tries
    flipping the light switch, the lights don’t go on. Phoenix
    and Xavier try the patio light, it doesn’t work.

    DAMON
    ********.

    MITCHEL
    What the hell?

    KIERRA
    Still think it’s a good idea to
    stay?

    DAMON
    Yes as a matter of fact I do. We
    can board up the windows and
    door...it’s safe.

    MITCHEL
    Damon, for how long, huh?

    Long pause.

    DAMON
    For how ever long it takes. Trust
    me...please.

    Short pause.

    MITCHEL
    Okay. Okay. Fine.

    DAMON
    Xavier...wanna come with me to get
    the wood from the shed?

    As Xavier heads for the door, two zombies jump at the door
    and growl at him, banging on the door. Phoenix and Xavier
    jump back. Zombies start banging on the front door and
    windows. Everyone looks around, scared. Kierra starts
    panicking.

    MITCHEL
    Sarah! Kierra! Stay close!

    Phoenix and Xavier look around as more banging is heard.
    Everyone else looks around, as zombies are trying to break
    in.

    SARAH
    (scared)
    Dad...

    MITCHEL
    I’m right here, Sarah, just stay
    close with me and Damon.

    KIERRA
    Dad...what do we do???

    As Damon looks around, he doesn’t have an answer and doesn’t
    know what to do at this point.
