The Old Dream
“There is something that terrifies me about silk, something that horrifies me. I avoid wearing it when I can; and when I can’t, I only wear small amounts. When I wear silk, I get the feeling that something with lots of eyes is watching me: all things of silk but one.
“That one was given to me in the will of my grandmother. When I was small she, my dearest grandmother, would take from her box of treasures (it is made of cardboard now but then it was made of magic) her wedding dress. I would rub it against my face, feeling the smooth silk as my grandmother told me her yesterday dreams for herself and her family, and in the silk I found the hope she had then.
“I wore this dress for my wedding; as will you, dear one. As tradition dictates, we must pass on the dream.”

- the idea is that the silk transmits dreams. the bit with the eyes is because silk is made with the spit of "silk" worms and in midevil times it was thought that spit was magical, so the eyes are the silk worms watching
