• 3. Caleb’s eyes

It was a sunny mourning 1994. The day was June 22nd. Only about five small clouds in the sky and the weather was perfect. 88 degrees, and sunny. School had just ended and he would be going to 7th grade next year. But after this day neither Chad nor Caleb would be the same. Mostly Caleb, because this was the first day he saw the monster. This was Caleb’s 12th birth day and Chad’s 11th. Amazingly enough they each had the same birth day just separated by a year.
“Wake up!” Chad said as he shook his cousin Caleb rapidly. “Its are birth day did you forget?” Chad asked. Caleb’s eyes creped open and he said in a sleepy voice,” of course I didn’t forget!” he bolted up. It was 6:00 in the mourning but Chad was an early riser and had been waiting for Caleb to wake up for over an hour. Chad had woke up fed the dog and watched ESPN. But sadly, there was nothing good. All it was that day was hockey and soccer, his least favorite sports. Back them they both had short hair (especially Caleb) and it was blond later to turn brown and black.
You may be wondering why Chad's at Caleb’s house. Well it’s not a sleep over. Since early that year Chad’s parents had been dead. And you will soon learn that these were not natural causes. What happened was actually fairly strange and not what the police expected.
They got up and out of bed and there was Chad’s aunt Perish and Caleb’s sister Emily. Emily was exited that it was there birth day but she didn’t look like it. Here long blondish blackish hair was all dangly and she was very tired. She had received Chad’s wake up call. She was a year younger than Chad.
“I made you your favorite,” said Parish. “French toast with some crispy cream donuts.” Chad gobbled down the food as fast as Caleb and that was fast. The high sugar break fast woke every one up and they proceeded to opening presents. “One for Chad and One for Caleb,” parish sad as she past the boxes raped in news paper funnies to Caleb and Emily past a present to Chad. And although Chad was younger he was taller. Chad opened his present and found a sparkling new metal yo-yo. In a month he would know many tricks. “Yes! Thank you so much!” Chad said as he quickly went into an open area to try it out. Caleb opened his and found the board game “Operation” he looked at and his face sparkled with happiness. When he later played that week he found out that he would become a doctor when he grew up.
Many fun activities followed including movies laser quest and much candy and donuts. They were at the river feeding ducks when they remembered something. “Hey Chad?” Said Caleb, “Remember lat year when the water falls were really big because of all the snow last year?” Chad remembered, “Yeah I heard about it but I never did see it.” Caleb then said, “Well it snowed even more this year and plus, the falls are just over there. Let’s go ask my mom.” Chad agreed and they walked over to and parish being careful not to get pooped on by some stupid seagull. Parish agreed and let them go.
“Wahoo!” they rejoiced as they walked over to the falls. The walk was only 5 minutes. When they were walking they noticed that the day down town was a busy one. It was no special day. But for some reason it was awfully crowded. When they got the they saw the bridge witch was newly remodeled. It was bright blue and very small. A little smaller that a foot ball field. They went and saw that there was a news cast. They were covering the falls that were more like a river with a drop and a rock in the middle. When the waves hit the rocks below. Some spray even went all the way up to the bridge on top.
“Whoa!” Chad said. “Have you ever seen any thing like that?” Caleb as stunned as Chad said, “No,” as quietly as a mouse. It was humongous he couldn’t believe the height of the water.
At the begging of the bridge a few feet away there was a boy about Chad’s age named Kaz and had recently changed his named to bob. This boy had no parents. He had no house. He only had a bike. What happened to his parents? They suffered a much darker fate than Chad’s but it was brutal. The boy was sitting on his bike watching Chad and Caleb and the new casters. His face was motionless and emotionless. He was a lean brown haired 11 years old. His hair was short and was flared with colic on one side. Ironically he had gone to the same school as Chad and knew him very well. He hated him though. He hated him more than any thing in the world. He was cursing under his breath and watching him and his goody two shoes cousin have a fun day and leaning over to look at the river.
    “Hey fatso,” a voice said.
Kaz freaked out and looked every were and saw nothing. He literally saw nothing. It was all white behind him and thee was and the bridge, the river, and the people on the bridge. The voice was no other than Moe having his murderous fun. “You hate that boy over there don’t yah, ‘bob’” Moe said. “Um.” Kaz said worried and freaked out. The people on the bridge weren’t moving, it was as if time had stopped. “Yes,” Kaz finally replied. “Want to do some bad things to him. I know you all ready have,” Moe said with his plan in hand. “Ah. Sure.” Kaz said now casually. He now realized that whatever was talking to him under stood his mind, it was nice to him, it was his friend.
This event happening was before Chad had messed ever thing up. Back then Moe new little about Chad. “ Well ‘Bob’ here’s what I want you to do. I think you’ll like it!” Moe said with excitement. “ How would you like to see goody two shoes fall to a sharp pointed rocked death!” Moe said as if he was on a game show showcasing a fantastic prize. “I,” said Kaz “would love that, Mr. floating voice, if I may call you that!” Kaz now had a crazy sinister smile stretched across his face. “Well what are we waiting for? GET UM! GET UM! GET UMMMM!” screamed Moe as if Kaz had just one the show case and he could go mess with it rite away. Time breezed back and Kaz bolted toward Caleb with tremendous speed and stuck out his leg to kick him over.
Chad was looking down at the water when all the sudden he heard a thump and saw Caleb falling toward the water. His head turned and he knew what happened. Some lousy no good son of a gun had pushed him rite over. His veins pulsed out as he slowly lifted his red hot head. His teeth were clinched together and his mussels were all tight. He saw a kid his age speeding away. He looked over to the news cast to make sure they weren’t looking because this wasn’t going to be pretty. His 100% adrenaline pushed him up maddening speeds. He went straight to the bike and stretched out his hand. He planted it firmly and the results were as he planned. It pealed the rubber rite of stopping the bike and thronging Kaz of. Chad never saw Kaz’s face. He only saw the blood that covered after he plunged his fist into his face 20 times. Every one was watching but no one had cared to do any thing. When Parish later found out she only thanked him, not punished. Chad took his head and went to finish the job. He smashed Kaz’s face into the pavement bridge and then smeared it. Chad then stood up flipped the boy over and stomped on his stomach. “You can go now,” Kaz said. “YOU! Can DIE NOW!” Chad screamed and his foot into Kaz’s faced and then squished it all over.
Apparently the plan to kill him didn’t work. Chad left to go tell Parish about what happened and didn’t turn back to see that Kaz got back up and walked away. Kaz should have been dead but Moe had restored him 20 seconds before he drifted away. Moe meant for Caleb to die not Kaz or ‘Bob’
Moe wasn’t successful at killing Caleb though. Caleb strangely survived.

Caleb felt the push and he tilted forward unprepared to fall. It’s the moments were your falling when you realize, I'm going to die now, and I wonder what’s going to happen after that. He felt the wind rush though his hair and he saw the rocks come closer, closer, and then he closed his eyes and felt a bang on his head. But the bang wasn’t what he thought. It was the water. He slowed down and then was drifting at amazing speeds down the river. This wasn’t how death was supposed to be, it was supposed to be quick and easy. But in steed he was tumbling into rocks falling down water falls and breaking bones.
He kept wanting some one to come and save him but he thought it very unlikely. Luckily but unluckily he was in the write spot to be saved. Suddenly all the rocks cleared, and so did the water. He could now see the sky, the sun, and the beautiful day around him. The madness had freeze. And he saw as if he in water and felt as if he was in the warm clean watery air above the river. But then his mouth opened to let out a scream as a dark black hooded figure faded into the picture. It floated 3 feet in the air above him; it was bony and covered head to tow in some sort of Smokey black coat. It was the first time Caleb saw the monster. It reached out its hand. Caleb’s face grew wide with terror as it spread into a silent scream and his body twitched and his hair stood up. He tried to move away from the incoming hand but he could not move. He was frozen there in fear with a facial expression of fear plastered on him. The monster grabbed his shirt and then turned him over to the edge of a dirt wall. And then they sped toward it and then flew through it.
Then Caleb fell though on to a flat concrete surface. He could move again. He was soaking wet on the floor. He could move but not well. Then he felt a cold hand reach out and touch him. He moved his fingers then his arms then his head and so on. He got up and had no idea were he was. He looked around and saw nothing. Just a humongous room that was the size of the city. About 5 miles away he saw what seemed like stars but he wasn’t sure. The room was flat and square. Four corners. And in the opposite corner he saw a speck. It seemed to have a glow. And the weirdest part was is that it seemed to be like something so small over there was actually moving? Then he looked up and saw the monster. A bony silhouette. He looked up more and saw its head. It was about eight feet tall. He was trembling and he stepped away slowly.
“Doesn’t worry I wont hurt you?” The monster said in a deep manly voice. “I’m going to get something of my back now that might scare you but I’m only doing it because it’s heavy. He then polled from behind his back a wide steel barbed sword from behind his back. It was as tall as Caleb and it shook the ground when he planted it in it.
Caleb looked around and saw every thing fuzzy. It was the water! He realized. He had kept his eyes open the whole time. “Darn it.” Caleb said, “I can’t see! It’s all fuzzy.” The monster turned and looked at him. “I can fix that.” It said in its deep voice, “It might hurt a little though. But you’ll see well.” Caleb thought of what this plan might be, laser eye surgery, and maybe just some pointy glasses. “Sure I’ll do it,” Caleb said.
The monster turned around after ripping off two barbs of his sword that quickly grew back. “Okay this is going to be a lot like laser eye surgery but it’s going to hurt a lot and it will heal write away,” The monster said. “What are you going to do?” asked Caleb. “You really don’t want to know,” said the monster. Then the monster took the two needles and stabbed them into each of Caleb’s eyes. There was no blood, just Caleb screaming with two needles in his eyes while the monster kept him from running like a maniac.
The monster took the needles out of Caleb’s pupils that for five seconds turned into a deep red color and then back to normal.” It was quick, rite! Didn’t hurt as much as you thought,” the monster said. Caleb’s eye’s looked normal and Caleb had to admit that it did hurt but only for a little though his clenched teeth that were glued together by shook.
“Okay so your going to go out of this room and back into the river, but don’t worry I have it so you wash up on the shore. And you can’t tell any one about this or ever think about me or a bad thing will happen to you Caleb. There’s going to be a lot of press wanting to talk to you but don’t tell them anything. And they may look strange because of your new eyes but you’ll get used to it in a few years (witch he did.) And one last thing. My eyes may haunt you. Some nights you may see things that I have saw. And I will guarantee 100% that some will freak you out but still have no worries. And when I though you back in the sea water keep your eye’s shut unless you want to get them stabbed again.
Then the monster grabbed Caleb by the shirt and threw him though the wall and into the river. Caleb felt the current hit him like a black belt hit him as he drifted with his eyes tightly shut until he noticed that he was on shallow enough land to just stand up, so he did. The shore he was standing on wasn’t well populated, except for the park above him and the bridge one-hundred feet to his left. He then walked up and out of the water to find that his mom and his sister were being informed by Chad his cousin. Then Caleb soaking wet ran over to them.
“Oh my god!” Parish said as she hugged her soggy son. “I can’t believe you made it!” over by the bridge the news casters were as surprised as every one, they ran over and every one followed.
The thing about the river was is that when you fall in it, mainly from the bridge, even more if you hit the spiky pit, you were supposed to die.
So now Caleb was the miracle kid in the news all in the U.S.A. for a day. Caleb didn’t die he didn’t even get sick from the cold water, there was not a scratch on him, it was as if he just got out of a normal back yard kitty pool.
They talked to people for an hour and than headed home. But Caleb was nervous and for the whole time he only looked at Chad once. He was terrified of every one he saw. These eyes weren’t normal they were cursed. For when ever Caleb saw a person he saw every scratch cut or gash that they would ever get in the life.
Chad was the worst. There were two humongous holes in Chad’s body. The small one was write on the top of his head. It was cutting open about five inches on the top of his head.
The there was the worst. A huge Gap in his stomach. A whole foot long all around the stomach area. And on the sides there were little shards every were. He couldn’t believe what the monster had cursed him with and it took two long years before Caleb got used to it.

When they got home Caleb was pleased to find out that the rotten devil that had pushed him in was a bloody pulp. And when he got home he acted like every thing was normal. But nothing was normal at all. Caleb saw every cut or gash that some one had gotten fresh as if they had just happened.
He had washed of and enjoyed the rest of his birth day although this day is what made Chad so stern and Caleb so afraid.

It was midnight and Chad and Caleb were going to bed on a bunk bed. They crawled up and went to sleep, but Caleb had a night mare about one of the thing that had happened though it’s eyes. He was in a house bran new. And there was people there who were dressed up as if they were living in the seventeen-hundreds. They walked in and one of the boys looked just like Chad. There was two parents and two kids. They went in there room and got settled in. They lived happily for a long time but then at one o’clock in the mourning one child had stayed up and then under the stair case some of the walls lifted up and out of the blackness raised the monster and Caleb saw and felt what the monster had.
The scared little boy grabbed a knife and threw it and him. It missed but the monster seemed irritated so it grabbed its sword and lifted it up and banged the ground. One of the boards flew up and broke the young Childs neck. And what happened next was the gruesome thing Caleb ever saw and let’s just says, a monster has to eat some ting.
And night after night Caleb had there nightmares. And that was how he got his eyes. And that’s how he knew the monster was alive and real, and would be forever.
