“Miki, are you alright?” The girls from yesterday asked before class started.
“Yeah, I’m fine…” I smiled even though I’m not the one who was hurt as much. Aya…
Suddenly I could feel a dark aura.
“Uh, we’ll see you later Miki.” The girls disappeared back to their seats. I turned my head slowly, and saw Kei. His glare was deadly. Yeah, I think he’s upset. Slowly he took his chair and sat down. As class began, I could feel his glare still haunting me. I was a little scared, but at the same time; I kept my cool.
I was grateful when the bell rang for lunch. But I guess I spoke to soon, because before I could do anything; Kei and pulled me out of my seat and out of the classroom. I didn’t say anything. I wanted to, but I didn’t know how. All he did was take me to the staircase where no one could see us. He pushed me against the wall to confront me.
“Do you think it’s right to ignore people when they’re talking to you?” He was definitely angry. And to say the truth, I was only ignoring him.
“Are you going to answer?” How could I? I didn’t want to talk to him for personal reasons, and that was all.
“Answer me damn…” He staggered a little. I held him up before he fell to the ground. What’s wrong with him? I felt his forehead, he was burning up! So I helped him to the nurse’s office.
“Oh my!” The nurse gasped as she saw us.
“What happened to him?” She asked.
“He has a fever.” I said as she helped him onto the single bed.
“I’ll be right back to take his temperature.” The nurse said, going into the back room. I guess I’ll get going back tot class.
“Stay, don’t go…” Kei grabbed my hand. My eyes widened. I was surprised.
“Fight me like a man…” He continued after that. My expression became flat. He really is a delinquent. But still…I couldn’t help but stay with him.
What? Where am I? I sat up in the chair. Oh yeah, I was watching Kei sleeping, and I guess I fell asleep along the way.
But something was missing…I looked at the empty bed. He. Left. Me?! Is this payback for yesterday?! How dare he!!! I was angry! I was furious! I was…hurt? Why would I be hurt? I deserved this, for what I had done to him. I guess I should just go…
“Oh, you’re up.” I stood up and saw Kei come through the door.
“Feeling guilty, so you turned back?” I commented. I couldn’t help myself already.
“No, I’m not like you. I don’t abandon others when they offer you a hand.”
“Then why are you coming back only now? When a person is sick, they should rest!”
“Well, I wake up to the bell ringing, saying that school was over, so I went to go grab our bags. But because you sleep like a log, you didn’t hear a thing.” How rude! Well whatever, I grabbed my bag from him.
“Thank you!” I yelled at him and walked out of the room. He followed me out.
“You know, you have an attitude.” He commented.
“Well no one said I didn’t have one.” I retorted.
“Yeah well, you act like you’re miss perfect and cute.” I stopped…no, he wasn’t even worth me yelling at him right now. I continued to walk, he chuckled. I rolled my eyes. After walking for what seemed so long, I could hear him to start coughing.
“You know, you should really take medicine when you get home.”
“Yeah, duly noted.” It felt like he wasn’t really going to listen to me. When we reached his house, he didn’t even say goodbye. I didn’t even bother to say anything either, but before I could walk on home; I heard a thud. I looked at Kei, who had collapsed to the floor as soon as he took one foot into the house. I rushed over and helped him up to his couch, since it was near by. This idiot said he was feeling better, but his fever hasn’t even ended yet.
“Kei, where are your blankets?” I whispered into his ear, hoping he could hear me. He mumbled and said closet by the staircase. So I grabbed some blankets and placed it on him. Next I went into the kitchen and gave him a cold compress for his forehead. I watched him as he slept peacefully. And as I sat there, the phone began to ring. I didn’t answer it since it wasn’t my house. After a couple of rings, the machine beeped and went to voicemail.
“Kei, this is your mother. You father just returned home, he’s fine. I hope his visit didn’t cause you too much trouble, I know how he can be. He told me you’ve found yourself a cute looking girlfriend. I’m proud, but remember I’m too young to be a grandmother! Well, please take care of yourself and I’ll call you again.” The machine beeped again. His father was only here to visit? But…if his father was here to visit, then that means Kei lives alone. Hmm, alone? Alone?! Oh god, I’m alone with Kei!!! Stay calm Miki, nothing bad could happen.
Suddenly, random outlooks popped into my head.
“No!!!” I grabbed my things and headed for the front door. I went to grab my bag from the coffee table in front of Kei. I stopped to look at him, he was still coughing. He’s all alone…I can’t just leave him here sick. I slapped my forehead, if only I hadn’t left him in that locker room alone. Then I wouldn’t be in this predicament!!! I grabbed my cell phone.
“Hello?” Shiori answered on the second ring.
“Hey, it’s me.”
“Miki? Where are you? Are you alright?”
“Yeah I’m fine, stop worrying. I’m staying at a friend’s house since it’s a weekend.”
“Oh ok, may I talk to the boy? I want to tell him to be gentle with you.” She said.
“It’s not like that!” I yelled at her. How the hell did she know I was at a guy’s house?!
“So it is a boy?” She teased, “and I thought you were trying to improve yourself.” I could already tell she was shaking her head sarcastically.
“It’s not! And I am!” I lied about the first part.
“Fine, I was just joking around anyway. No need to get a conniption. Just be careful.”
“I will.” I said before I hung up.
The rest of the night, I only focused on making sure Kei got better.
The next day, I woke up to a delicious smell. I remember last night, I didn’t go to sleep until Kei’s fever had dropped. And when it did, I finally took a seat on the other couch and fell asleep. I sat up, and yawned. There was a blanket on me. I looked at the kitchen and saw Kei making breakfast. How nice, I thought as I walked into the bathroom. I looked in the mirror, my hair was a mess. With my mere fingers, I brushed through the tangles. I doubt Kei had a brush since his hair always looked like it was straight out of the bed. I stopped what I was doing…Kei was better?! And now he was just making breakfast like nothing was wrong?! Plus I’m still in his house…alone….alone…alone!!! I don’t want to be here. This is bad, I don’t want to go back to my old self. I’ll just grab my things and leave quietly. I know it’s wrong, but he looks better now.
“What are you doing?” Kei stopped me as I came out of the bathroom. Probably because I was crouching down, trying to be sneaky. To him it probably looked suspicious. I straightened up.
“I was just leaving.” I walked backwards back to the living room. He was smiling, walking closer to me. Every step I took, he took as well.
“You don’t want breakfast?” He asked.
“Um, no thanking you.” I smiled. I don’t want to be here, and it’s not because I was scared of him. It was because I was scared of what I might do. I always loved the chase and slow anticipation like this, Takeru always used to tease me. It’s not like me, it was so out of my character.
“Your hair looks messy.” He smiled even more, and finally I was pushed down onto a couch. How the hell did we get like this.
“I want to thank you.” He leaned in close, so close that I could feel his breath on my skin. I couldn’t take anymore.
“I…I have to go!” I pushed him off, grabbed my things, and ran out the door. I don’t love him! He’s not the one I want to pursue!!! I could almost yell, as I enter my house. But thank goodness I lived only two houses down, maybe if he followed me he would think I had the power to disappear. Since he didn’t know where I lived.
“So, how was your night?” My sister saw me as I passed the kitchen. She was drinking her coffee as usual. I know she was on her way to work.
“Good. Great even.” I replied.
“Why are you so jumpy?” She stood up and walked over to me. Did I smell of fear? And did I really jump when she asked me the question?
“You look exhausted, sleep late? Or no sleep at all?” She walked in a circle around me.
“I didn’t sleep with anyone if that’s what you’re insisting.”
“Ha! I wasn’t insisting anything in particular, so why did you insist that I was insisting that you had sex?” She looked at me weird. I rolled my eyes, this was why I didn’t like staying out late or sleeping over somewhere unless she actually gets the straight facts.
“I’m going to bed.” I ran upstairs.
“You shouldn’t hide it, I’ll find out eventually.” She Shiori sang as I closed my door and flopped on my bed. Automatically I fell back asleep.
