tab The very first moment I laid eyes on her 10 years ago, I knew she was the one. Susan Heartfield...In an instant, when our eyes met for the first time, I imagined the bright flashes of the future with her.
tab But those thoughts...they all seem like a fairy tale now.
tab For five years, I hadn't seen her...
tab Not once.
tab She moved away. Not a word why. And not a word since.
tab It took me awhile to get used to life without her. But in the weeks to come, I found myself situated back in to normal, every day life. Eventually, as the months went by, I began to enjoy myself again. And after a couple of years, all memory of her that I still had was crammed into a drawer in the back of my head.
tab It was December 20th, 2009 when I finally saw her again, at a local Christmas party. I had changed since the last time I saw her, when I was 16 years old. That tends to happen after a five spand of time. I was a couple inches taller, I had a goutee, and most important of all, I had a girlfriend. Sarah Johnson.
tab With all my change, it seemed small in comparison to Susan's. It took awhile for me to see the small the subtle relationships between Susan's past and present self. She was taller, more mature looking, and all baby fat was now gone. Yet still, there was her chest nut hair, her almond eyes, her curved, slender body...
tab Unbelievably, she was more beautiful than the last time I saw her.
tab Seeing her again just poured memories into my brain. I remembered everything...I remembered us in the same class together, us at the school parade...
tab My thoughts of a future with her...
tab I slapped myself in the forehead for thinking such a thing. I had Sarah now. I didn't need someone else. A love triangle was the last thing I wanted.
tab For a few moments I tried to forget I even saw her at all. It didn't take me long to figure out that was quite impossible, so I figured a small talk with her wouldn't hurt, so long as I didn't get into a relationship.
tab But we all know how that works out.
tab Being the paranoid kind of guy I am. I took a quick glance at Sarah. Getting some punch. I looked back at Sarah, and took one more glance at Sarah as I mustered to courage to walk up to Susan.
tab "Heeeeey! Susan!" I put my hands in my pockets and went on nervously,
tab "Long time, no see! How've you..." She gave me one of those "looks", so I quickly back-tracked and said,
tab "Um, sorry. You probably forgot about me. I'm Ja--"
tab "And who might this be, Jack?" I turned around.
tab Sarah Johnson. Talk about bad timing.
tab "Oh, Sarah! Do you remember Susan Heartfield?" Sarah smiled pleasantly and then laughed.
tab "Susan Heartfield?! Really? I mean, I haven't seen you in years!" Her smile quickly drooped to a sensative frown as she saw Susan looking gloomily at her shoes.
tab "Is there something wrong?" It took her awhile to say something. The she whispered, barely lifting her head to us,
tab "I...I'm sorry...I'm so sorry..." With a quick glance at us, she began pushing through the crowd of people, and I never saw her again that night.
tab Susan left me confused that night. More confused than when she left without a warning. What was she doing at the party? What was she apologizing about? Was it for that? Was it because she left without a warning.
tab And it so happened, that after I dropped of Sarah, I found myself thinking of Susan all over again. I needed to know more. For five years, she's been holding something back. What?
