She was a happy-go-lucky kind of girl. You know, the girl you fall in love with almost instantly. But she really wasn't. She was, in fact, depressed. Very, Very depressed. But she was also very good at hiding them. So good, in fact, that she seemed happy. She was called Amy. That wasn't her real name though. No one knew her real name. Except him. There's always an exception.
He was that sad-faced, depressed-looking kind of guy. You know, the one you instanly reject and never, ever speak to. But he really wasn't. He was, in fact, happy. Very, very happy. He was the ultimate feeling-hider. He was practically Vulcan. He was called James. That really wasn't his real name. He just didn't like his real name. Although she did. There's always an exception.
So, long story shrt: boy meets girl, girl falls in love with boy, boy rejects her, girl goes out with someone else, boy gets very jealous and wins the girl. Sort of anyway.
"Hey Amy."
"Hey James."
"Sooo...doing anything Saturday night?"
"No, why?
"Because you and I are going to see a movie."
"Which one?"
"Your choice."
"James, you know I can't make snap decisions like this!"
"This isn't exactly a snap decision. Today's Thursday."
"Oh yeah! Wow I feel stupid."
"Dont' worry about it."
"See you later."
"Yes you will."
Amy gave him a sly little look, a faint smile present on her face.
Days past and Saturday came.
"Wow! You look beautiful!"
"Don't I always?"
"O.K. you got me there. Wanna get going?"
"Hell, yes!"
And so they got going. Short story shorter, they see a movie and have dinner and end up taking a walk in the park.
"I need to tell you something,"says James.
He finds a bench and they sit down, slightly facing each other.
"You're not okay, Amy. I can tell."
"What do you mean?"
"You aren't happy. I can see it in your eyes. you've been like this as long as I've known you.'
"No, James. I'm the happiest person on the planet!"
"Look at me, Amy. Look in my eyes and tell me you're happy."
She looked away, a tear in her eye.
"You are happiness without heart, love without feeling, laughter without a meaning. And I love you."
Amy looked into his eyes. The tears were streaming, her breath ragged.
"What about you, huh?!?"she screamed,"Are you any more depressed than I am?!?"
"No! Do you want to know why? Because I met you. I was a suicidal, unloved worm before I met you. No one could see the change I suddenly went through but it's there. And it was all because of you. Because I love you."
She was sobbing now, and he was getting teary."
"I know your name," he said.
"What?"
"Yeah. Your real name is Dexy. Because of your parents deep love of Dexy's Midnight Runners."
"How did you know?"
"When you and I first danced, "Come On, Eileen" came on and you refused to dance and you began blushing like mad.Well that and your parents told me."
"I love you,"she said.
"I know."
They kissed, sparks flew and happiness finally had heart, hearth, and home.

Description:
A short story I decided to write. For a while now I've had these...feelings. You know, that deep aching heartache that just won't go away? Pretty annoying really...but this is my way of sorting those feelings out.
Notice I used a great deal of repetition and yet almost completely reversed the adjective. And yes, that is a Star Trek reference. I'm just that kind of guy. - Date: 10/09/2009
