Midnight pawed at the Headmaster's door. The Headmaster opened the door and Midnight flew up onto his shoulder. "Oh, hi Midnight." Headmaster said. "Where have you been?" he asked as he patted Midnight's head. It pawed at his hand. "You want to give me something?" Headmaster held out his hand and the bat cat dropped the scythe stone shard into his hand.
The Headmaster closed his door and went and sat at his desk. Midnight jumped of his shoulder and sat beside the cup of pens and pencils. "Whose did this come from?" The headmaster asked the bat cat. Midnight meowed, perked its ears and stretched its back. "Hmmm, interesting," the Headmaster said, "This could be very interesting." He rubbed Midnight's back as it purred and went to sleep.
Dawn opened the door to her new dorm room and her new roommate, Millie ran past her and dived onto the nearest bed.
"I call this one!" Millie said and rubbed her face into the soft white pillow.
"That's just fine with me," Dawn said and looked around the room. It seemed larger than her last room, that she shared with Sky, but that was probably because there were no blankets hanging from the ceiling that were used as curtains so that Sky and Dawn could change in privacy, because they had no bathroom. This dorm room was like a mini apartment. There was two beds in the main room and two dressers and a nightstand between the beds under the window. There was a small open room to Dawn's left that was the kitchen that had a mini refridgerator and microwave on the counter. To Dawn's right there was a small bathroom.
"Hey look, our clothes and stuff are already here," Millie said as she opened one of the dresser drawers. "Wait a sec," she muttered and searched through the drawers.
"What's the matter? Missing a pair of underware?" Dawn asked. Millie shook her head then grinned and pulled something out of the botton drawer.
"There you are!" She exclaimed holding a worn out, hand made rag doll, then hugged it.
"Millie, who is our other roommate?" Dawn asked.
"Oh right!" Millie held the doll out. "This is Ragdy Sam. Sam meet our Martha replacement, Dawn." Millie held out Sam's hand to Dawn.
"Pleased to meet you, Sam." Dawn said and shook the rag doll's hand. Millie looked at the clock above the door and yawned.
"I'm tired, I'm going to skip dinner and go to bed." Millie said and pulled a pair of pink and blue pajamas and went into the bathroom to change. Dawn looked at the clock and saw it was only a quarter after seven. She was a little hungery so, she just closed the door and got something to snack on from the mini fridge. Millie was done changing and crawled into bed with Ragdy Sam in her arms. "Good night, Dawn." She said and rolled over and was out.
Dawn finished her snack then searched the other dresser and found her panada pajamas and changed in the little bathroom, turned the lights off and went to sleep.
Dawn woke with a start when she heard a scream. Wide awake she looked around and saw that Millie was curled into a ball at the head of the bed in the corner by the wall. She was tremmbling and hugging Ragdy Sam as if for dear life.
"Millie? Millie are you okay?" Dawn asked as she climbed out of her bed. "Millie! Yo! Girl, hello?" Dawn called and shook Millie's shoulder. Millie stopped tremmbling but then kinda slummped down on her bed, her eyes were staring past Dawn in to nothingness. Dawn jummped to her feet. "Wait a second, Millie. I'm going to get Martha." Dawn said and found the paper that had the new assigned partnets and rooms, and found Martha's and Kaline's room on the sheet. Dawn ran out into the hall with the sheet in her hands.
"Martha. Martha." Kaline said and poked the sleeping Martha's arm. Martha opened her eyes and looked at Kaline.
"Kaline?" Martha grummbled and sat up, rubbing the sleep from her eyes. "What do you want? Go back to sleep."
"Something's wrong." Kaline said. Martha looked at the little white haired girl and saw that she was fully awake and had a worried look on her face.
"What's wrong? You have a nightmare?" Martha asked. Kaline shook her head. Just then Martha heard the hurried footsteps beating on the hard wooden floor out in the hall. Martha got out of bed and pulled on her white house coat and opened the door to see what was going on. Suddenly Dawn ran right up to her.
"Martha!" Dawn yelled.
"Don't yell, Dawn. I'm standing right here." Martha said. "What is it?"
"It's Millie. She won't answer me!" Dawn said. Martha didn't wait for anything else that Dawn may have to say. She pushed past Dawn and ran down the hall to Millie's room. She had memorized the room number in case something like this would happened. Martha ran in through the open door and saw Millie slummped on her bed. Sam had fallen from her grasp and landed on the floor.
Martha picked Sam up and sat on the bed beside Millie and put her arm around the blond haired girl. "Millie. Millie, it's time to wake up now." Martha said warmly. After a moment Millie's eyes began to focus and she looked up at Martha. Suddenly Millie bursted out crying and wrapped her arms around her big sister. Martha hugged her and rocked her a bit and repeatedly said, "It's okay, it's okay now."
Dawn walked into the room and asked if Millie was okay.
"She'll be fine once she calms down and goes back to sleep." Martha said. Millie slowly stopped crying and pasted out in Martha's arms. Martha slowly got up and layed Millie back down in bed and tucked her in. She slipped the rag doll under the covers with her little sister and wiped the tears from the girl's eyes using the sleeve of her housecoat. Martha went out into the hall and waved for Dawn to follow her.
Dawn and Martha stood outside the room as Millie slept. Before Dawn could asked Martha was already explaining to her what was going on.
"Our parents and our older brother died in a car accident we were all in." Martha said. "Millie and I survived because of our scythe powers protected us. She sometimes has these nighttears about it. Their not usually very bad, but the nightears really take it out of her." Martha looked back at her sister. "She'll forget she had it in the morning." She turned back to Dawn. "Don't worry too much," she said when she saw Dawn was almost crying. "She shouldn't have another nighttear for a while." Martha stretched her arms and yawned. "I'm tired. I'm going back to bed. You go back to bed too, and don't let any of this bother you. I can handle it." Martha said and started back down the hall.
"What about you?" Dawn asked and Martha stopped. "Do you get nighttears too?" Martha didn't answer at first then turned to Dawn.
"I've gotten used to it." She said.
Back in room two-fourty-seven, Kaline was sitting on her bed, her eyes out of focus as she smiled.
