It was a Saturday morning. My house was dead silent. I lie awake in my bed for what seems like forever. Finally, I gained the courage to get up and face my mother. After the battle we had last night, I was scared to even think about her. "Suck it up, you wimp." I muttered to myself. I slid out of my bed, and put my slippers on. I slowly walked to my door, and opened it. When I stepped outside, I found the house was a mess. She must have destroyed it last night when she got home from the bar. My mom was an alchoholic. We fight a lot.
I peeked over the railing, it looked like a tornado hit the house. I think my mom was the tornado, and I was the car getting tossed around everywhere, trying to escape the deadly storm. It was no use. I slowly emerged the top of the staircase. Why was I so scared to face the woman who gave me life? But then again, she almost gave me death too. I walked down the stairs quietly. She must've heard me because she said, "Kayce? Kayce, is that you?" "Mom, yeah, it's only me." I whispered. "Honey, come here." She said. I walked over into the kitchen and it was spotless. I found my mom cooking eggs. I was confused.
"Kayce, I'm making eggs for you." She whispered. "Mom, I'm allergic to pepper." As soon as I said that, I inhaled. The room smelled awful. I plugged my nose and ran out of the house. I ran down the street to my friend Carmen's house. I knocked on the door. She answered. "Kayce? What are you doing here?" She asked, confused. "I need to get away. Away from my mother. Away from my house. Away from everywhere! Please come with me." I begged her. "Kayce, I don't know. My mom wouldn't-" I cut her off. "Carmen, you're 15. I'm 15. We'll be fine. Now, come on!" I grabbed her and we ran.
We ended up at this house that looked abandoned. We knocked on the door and there was no answer. We tried to open it. It was locked. We knocked again. No answer. "Okay, heres the plan." I told Carmen what we were going to do, and it worked. We climbed up the side of the house and through the unlocked window. "We're in!" I exclaimed. Just then, we heard footsteps coming up the staircase. "Oh no!" I whispered to Carmen quietly.
"Oh, un-expected house guests. How lovely. What I mean is, what a fascinating story for the cops. Why are you breaking into my house?" The man said. He looked about 65-70. Very old man, though wealthy. He looked rich. Why was he living here? "Oh, we knocked and the house looked abandoned. So we came through the window. We're really sorry, sir. But, we needed to get away, and there was nowhere to go. And we walked so far to find this house, it looked perfect." I explained. He bought it. "Well, if you've got no place to stay, you are welcome to stay here, you run-aways." He smirked at us, then turned his back and walked out the door. I looked at Carmen. "That went well." I said with a chuckle.
It turned out the man was rich, but this house was just somewhere to get away from his wife when he needed to be alone. He understood us quite well, and after a while, things got pretty nice. We moved in with him, into his other home with his wife, and he bought us everything we ever wanted. Who knew life could be so great? I sure didn't. Although I missed my mom, I would never have to fight with her again. But one day, I decided to write her a letter. This is what it said...
Janet (Mom),
This is your daughter, Kayce. I'm fine. I'm with Carmen. I know its almost been 2 months, and I miss you lots. But the thing is, you weren't taking care of me. You spend most of your time and money at the bar. You bought me fast food everyday fo breakfast, lunch, and dinner. It's a good thing I was very active. Now I have a good home now. Thanks for trying to take care of me, and I appreciate it. But I'm 15, it's time for me to make decisions for myself, and I made this one, there's nothing you can do about it. Sorry, mom. I still love you. Never forget that.
~Kayce
