Breathe. Breathe. Breathe.
No, no, no, I don’t want to. Just leave me a few more minutes. Just let it end. The voice it is fading. I can finally leave this world, end the pain. My throat and lungs they aren’t burning anymore. Is that light I see behind my eye lids? If I open my eyes will I see heaven? Will I finally see god? Shall I risk it just to see his beautiful face? But what if it isn’t, what if it is reality, the real world? I hate the real world. I don’t want to go back. But I will risk it. I want to see his face. I have to know.
He eyes slide open effortlessly. All he saw was the white ceiling. At first he thought he really was in heaven, but once he really looked around he saw that that wasn’t the case.
There was the monitor beeping in the background at a steady rate. The doctors and nurses were bustling around busy with work. One nurse was changing his IV. The patient, in the next bed over, was vomiting this fowl smelling liquid. Down the hall a child was screaming for attention.
This was not where he wanted to be. He couldn’t take it, the pain, the suffering, that was around him. Throwing the nurse aside, he jumped to his feet. In the process he ripped out his IV, and he was bleeding horribly. At the moment he didn’t care. He just wanted it to end.
Things flew.
The monitor went first. It hit an old lady that had just walked up to the counter for assistance. He pushed the bed into a little girl that was walking by holding the hand of her mother.
People panicked.
Everyone ran for the exit. They had to get out, but he didn’t want them to. He thought that the more people inside the easier it would be to get what he wanted. These people he would use, use as a way of suicide. After all he couldn’t live in this world any longer. These people and the police were his way out.
Knocking over the pop machine, pushing it the last foot so it sat in front of the door, he stepped up on top of it. He grabbed a little boy by his hair pulling him up next to him. The boy wailed and screamed in pain.
Starting to beat the boy he yelled, “If any of you comes near I will kill him.”
A clerk behind the counter managed to dial 911 without him noticing. Not five minutes later, the police showed up.
He swiveled around in a circle and shouted, “Who touched the phone?”
Everyone froze in place. They looked like wooden practice dummies, for not even an eye twitched.
As he reached out to grab someone else to punish them, the sound of thunder hit the air. The glass shattered behind him. He fell to the floor finally getting his wish.
