A wintry red scuddy-cloud sky. Peach clouds, pale red sky. Nothing I recognised.
I could see this sky, I could feel the grass underneath me, I could hear wind whistling throught trees.. For the first time, it felt to me.
I didn't know who I was, where I was.. what I was. How could someone normal wake up one day, and not know these things about themselves? I must be not normal, abnormal. A freak. I grasped at hope as that word stirred something, but the feeling was wrong, and I let go as quickly. It hurt to even think that word.. Why?
I decided thinking was obviously bad for me, so I stood up - a world of hilly, wood-filled country. Woods in valleys, meadowed hills sloping gently. Wispy sky as before - my first sight, as I could remember anyway. And I could see nothing else - no civilisation, no life..
I walked towards a valley, thinking it would be the best place for a small village. As I walked, my head moved to the present me. My name? If I met someone, how would I introduce myself? I scouted for a name, but I knew none - so I came up with my own. Next I wondered about my age, but finding a small half-stagnant pond told me I looked in late teens. My judgement was most likely not trustful, but I couldnt care now.
I set off again, and thought about how I looked. Dark hair, a rich roan brown; greeny-brown eyes, an interesting colour, heart-shaped face, symmetrical lips. Tanned, as far as I could see, long legs and arms, in red dress that reached just above my knees, with elbow-length sleeves. I had reached wood now, the ground levelling a bit more, but I was thinking whether I would look strange to others, and I stumbled over a jutting root.
I braced to fall, arms outstretched to land on, but something caught me on my shoulder and pulled me back roughly, making me gasp.
I looked up to my 'rescuer' and found myself immersed in dark brown eyes. I gasped as I took in a handsome chiselled face - this man looked so stately, almost too good for any human world.
"Chara? What is wrong with you hoy, chica?" The god-looking man said. "Usted actúa como un humano!"
My eyes widened, my heart quickened. I felt like a horde of pin-like demons were tap-dancing in stilettos on my lungs. My mouth opened and closed at him a few moments, as he looked more and more confused.
"Who are you? What does that mean? I don't understand." I said in a whispering voice, which sounded scared even to my ears. His eyes widened like mine had only a few moments ago. I continued, "My name is Cisandrí, and I.. think I'm lost." I tried to calm my tone - I didn't want to frighten away this beautiful thing before me,
I only wanted more time to lose myself in those eyes.
"Cisandrí? Uh, but you look like..." he shook his head, making me more confused. "I am Mikaeli. I was speaking our.. my second tongue. There is the one city only a few miles from here, and no other civilisation, so I am sure you must come from there. As you are.. lost, I can accompany you." His musical voice was hesitant, but I eagerly nodded, yearning for some reason to stay with him - I couldn't explain why. It puzzled me as he led me through the twisting forest.
Our path seemed steady, though I could not tell it apart from the rest, and Mikaeli did not speak as our path led us down the gentle sloping forest - But I was thrilled, my breath almost catching as he helped me over an outcrop of rocks, holding my hand gently, but with strength behind it.
~
I felt growing unease about an hour or two later.. but Mikaeli seemd to feel better as we walked, and he was striding confidently.
I realised we were getting close to the city Mikaeli had spoken of.. but I didn't want him to leave me when we got there. Soon, my thoughts confirmed as we could hear yelling, twon traffic, and smell the scents of a city. We broke through the trees, and my heart sank - Why?
It was exactly the picture I associated with the word city - red brick buildings, tall metal framed buildings, market, busy town centre, getting steadily more suburb toward the edges.
Mikaeli held me around my bicep as he hurried us to a black and white house., but not fast enough for me not to hear the hails of "Oye Chara!", "Hola Chara!" "Chara, oye!" as we walked past the entrance of the marketplace. The words must be directed at me - That word [name?], was the same that Mikaeli had said when he found me... could these people, these people I couldn't remember, know me? I was distracted again as Mikaeli opened the door and walked into the hall, where I timidly followed.
"Hey!" Mikaeli called, and glanced at me. I met his eyes in the millisecond of the glance, but I looked back and saw them.
People leaning against the white walls, standing beside Mikaeli, about 5 others, as if they had been there before we walked in - it scared me.
Mikaeli strode to one, and began muttering quickly to him in that language I had heard him speak before. The others turned their noticing gaze to me, and I knew I must look awful to them - my dress had ripped slightly on the skirt, my hair was pushed back untidily, and I had no colour in my face, despite the tan. Their staring, the quick confusing muttering, the perplexed face of Mikaeli, and these.. people scared me. The others, just as Mikaeli, looked like Gods and Goddesses.
I closed my eyes, wishing to know their stares weren't directed to me. It went quiet, and my eyes wouldn't open. I didn't know though - I had fainted.
My mind worked in unconsiousness.
These godly people, 3 men, including Mikaeli, and 2 women, seemed to know something. About me. But I hadn't told them anything. That scared me.
But my mind wailed at myself.. my silly self. The people had been fair-haired and dark eyed.
Maybe I
scared them?
