• The sun was setting as we made our way down the sandy coast, listening to the powerful waves making their mark on an ever-changing shore. We were here as friends, trying to get away from home and it's troubles, or maybe it was fate that had brought us together on this evening.

We stopped and sat down on a dry stretch of sand, just silently watching the seagulls freely soaring off into the horizon when he poked me.

"Tag, you're it," he said with a grin. His eyes lit up, looking intensely on my face, the soft glow from the sunset adding a mysterious quality to his face. But he wasn't mysterious at all. We'd known each other since forever.

"Tag..." I whispered back. He was about to poke me again when suddenly I jumped up, almost knocking him over backward.

    "You gotta catch me first!"

I took off running, the loose sand feeling great against my bare feet. I looked back at him, but there he was, already on his feet and closing the distance between us. I put on my full speed, giggling into the wind as I heard his familiar laugh. I looked back again just as I saw him dive for me.

We rolled into the sand, laughing and giggling uncontrollably. He crawled over to me and put his head right next to mine, resting it on my long black hair. We stared at each other for a long time, not really thinking about anything, a thousand thoughts running through our minds. Finally, he pulled himself up and met my eyes.

We didn't even talk, yet my heart was thudding wildly inside my chest, threatening to break free and twine itself around his.

"Why have we been waiting for so long?" was his question. His misty gray eyes seemed to peek into the very essence of my soul. Then he leaned forward and kissed me.

We came as friends, but we left as something a little more than that.
