How could anyone not understand it, it perfectly shows that even if in the future or past the two always meet and fall in love with eachother but their social status gets in the way.
Like in the Past: She looks noble and he's a peasant, yet he fell in love with first sight of her.
In the Current or present/future: He and she are somewhat are in normal but he's kind of popular with the ladies so a bit hard to approach.
